Among fairly PC groups, I've noticed a trend towards it being unacceptable to use gay=bad, but using girls/ladies/women=bad is still acceptable. Like, "That's so gay" vs "Hurry up, ladies" (directed at a group of men or mixed gender).

Didn't think it was that confusing a concept.
