Okay. So you kids like your RPF. That's all well and good and dandy, I like me some RPF too.

But where I get pissed right the fuck off is when your little fic community is full of fics of a really implausible pairing, and every single fic includes a line about how the male half of the pairing's wife of nearly 9 years is a "crazy bitch." Usually enumerated by an actress known to be one of the classiest in the business, which just seems so out of character. Also, to write him cheating on said wife... just no.

(Literally. Every. Fic.)

Of course, seeing wank reports about various fandoms, I know that the real-life significant others of people who get in the way of their beloved ships often make fen froth and kermitflail, but this is such a small fandom, with a lot of not-as-well known people, I don't know why I assumed this one would be different.

It's disappointing to say the least. Guess I'll have to stick to the outskirts of the fandom once again, cause I don't want to get the crazy on me.

Word.

Why is open relationships or even AU so hard to write for some people? Also, in the case of RPS, bisexuality. Not every wife or girlfriend is a beard! Dudes can dig both chicks and other dudes! And even if you can't accept that, please at least not call the SO horrible names in every single fic and fic header. It's sadly very prevalent.

it's hard to write because it's "unrealistic." i wish some rpf fandoms really didn't have this massive trend towards completely mimetic fiction, complete with unhappy endings.

Ah, that charming attitude rearing its head once more. I remember getting into LOTRPS, only to be horrified by this 'feature' of the fandom.

LOTR FPS had it's fair share, too. The Rose bashing was, and probably still is, horrible.

Augh, don't remind me. I still remember this masterful story and many of the tales that inspired it.

Someone claiming to be the wife of a rock star was complaining about this on Fandom Secrets recently. It's certainly something that's always bothered me and it's rife in any type of fiction where there's an SO that needs to be gotten out of the way.

Is it really SO HARD to forget the wife exists? If writers are going to be so canonically scrupulous as to include her then why do they throw canon out the window in order to demonize her? Bad, lazy, misogynistic writing.

Although fics that demonize Heather Mills can probably be forgiven. ;)

And Maxine Entwistle, but that's neither here nor there...

Heather Mills is a demon. The bitch can die in a fire, as far as I'm concerned. And I don't even really like Paul.

I don't either--Paul is my least favorite Beatle and I don't find him to be that cute, either, so I was really surprised at how strongly I reacted to Heather Mills and her batshit; there were times I was almost barked at my TV, which is something I only did with Sarah Palin.

Have to admit, I read a bit of an epic where that had been done recently, and I found it almost as creepy as demonising them. To stick so closely to canon inevery other way, but just remove someone from existence? A namecheck wouldn't have hurt.

Agreed, that IS creepy. I guess the problem is sticking to 'canon' then. How are we to make 'canon' out of someone's private lives, anyway? (See, this why I never got into RPF myself.)

There's a whole bunch of different lines to walk (as well as making people evil, or Stalinesque wholesale removal, you've also got to consider writing about people who aren't in themselves famous and never wanted to be), and I have to admit it's why I tend to like the AUs significantly better.

AUs are inherently superior, yes. Gawd, I love me some crackfic.

Bandom has sucked me into the all-too-tiny genre of Craigslist AUs. I don't know why I love them so much.

God, I hate that shit. If it's a very angsty fic, I may have them secretly cheating, but I most often work on the "We have an understanding" premise - it only takes one line, and it's not so far from the realm of the believable for a famous person's wife. Like Sharon Osbourne said once, "As long as he comes home to me, I don't care what he does on the road." So there's a precedent for it, and it's a much nicer way of doing things.

Why can't people just ignore the wife? Especially if she's not a movie star/actor/musician/etc. like the paired-up characters.

This is part of the reason why, even though I love Adam and Kris to death and think that they love each other to death, I have stayed away from American Idol RPS this season. Adam is openly gay and (I think) single, but Kris is married! To a lady! And she seems really sweet, so it would make me sad to see her get written off as a crazy bitch.

I've been to scared to go into AI RPS but Kris's wife just looked adorable. Why would anyone call her a bitch?

Because she is standing in the way of Kradam, duh.

No, I actually have no idea. I think a lot of people are just setting fics in the mansion and ignoring her existance, but I know there are probably some people out there who are writing her as this awful homophobe or whatever, you know? I tend to assume the worst of people in the Idol fandom, haha.

Fair enough. I've only read 2 AI fics this season, (one Ryan/Simon and an Adam/everyone) so yeah. Maybe I'm just avoiding the crazy :D Plus setting it in the mansion where it's some sort of torrid affair is awesome

I don't follow AI but I caught Kris on Leno this past week. I went "D'awwww!" when he started talking about his wife.
