Dear [insert fandom name] Fic Writer,

I envy you a little, I really do; I try to push myself to write something every day and most of the time I find it pretty crap, much less something I'd consider posting to a comm for other people to look at.

But you? You not only write every day, you write multiple fics and then you post them. I assume you do this right after you finish each one, because with maybe two exceptions you've posted every day for the past month and your fics? I might be generous to suggest they're usually a page long. Very generous.

I would assume that you also crosspost the hell out of your 'fics', but I'm only in a couple of central comms and not any of the random tangent-y ones our mutual fandom seems to have spawned. I can only imagine if one were watching across them and found themselves with three posts of yours in one day across several communities. Overjoyed, I'm sure!

So while I admire your enthusiasm, you perhaps might invest in a beta, a drabble file, and a load of self-restraint. My brain and friends list would thank you.

Love, Jyuu

I'm drawn to this rant, if only because of some very frequent poster at this comm. I also don't understand people who include a large, flashing disclaimer that their stuff will be LOCKED IN A WEEK, read them while they're still hot.

Ahahahaha, giving me a time limit is, like, the antithesis of Ways To Get Fic Read By Jyuu.

I haven't seen that for fic, but I've seen it for random media, like scans. It's still a pain in the butt.

I actually understand that when people do it for media, in a "get them now and please don't leech off me forever" context, but doing that for fanwork is a bit to self-important.

A thousand, no, a billion times yes to that second part. I have no clue why people do that. It's irritating as hell and makes me want to tell people not to share things if they're just going to play mind games and jerk them away after a set time.

Of course, if I actually did that, there'd be mod wank all up in here and that'd be bad. So I end up biting my tongue and playing nicey nice.

(icon not directed at you, of course.)

I try very, very hard not to snap a "Your work is not that good anyway." at them. I try.

Now that's a cheap way to pad one's friends list. I haven't seen that for fic but I have for icons for the very first time this week. I almost destroyed a keyboard for being bowled ass over elbow by the ego platter with hostage sauce garnished with brass balls.

When people post a link to a drabble, and I do mean a drabble, I go "whyy". Someone posted a link to a 90 word ficlet in a community I used to watch. 90. WORDS. Couldn't they just wait until they wrote a few other drabbles and dump the links in one post?

If the community is one devoted to weekly drabble prompts or daily writing prompts, I can see posting one drabble in it. But generally, I just mention that I have drabbles in my writing journal when posting longer works, or do a collection of links.

It was a general James Bond fan community.

I'm really really damn tempted to PM this person and ask that they maybe wait until they have a few saved up to post, but I it's not my comm and I suppose I could just quit watching it. *sigh*

It kills me, though, that she lists them as fics, also labeling them "Oneshots", because maybe it makes them seem more important, idk. They're not drabbles! They're oneshot fics that need to be posted separately!

Yeah, in a few of the communities I watch people tend to wait a bit before posting links to their fics, and we're not just talking short fics. Sometimes they post a general fic round up of fics of all sizes, long and short. And I like that! Less spam and all that--but seriously, why bother posting a link to something short short short, all by itself?

I've been wondering myself. I would think it's somewhere between getting them out in a rush before you reconsider (due to low self-esteem maybe) and just not wanting to bother with keeping track of what you've posted where and when (laziness!).

I hardly ever write drabbles. In my last fandom I wrote, maybe, two. So if I waited for them to accumulate, I'd never get to post them. Which isn't a great loss to the community, I realize, but sometimes the drabble is of a rare pairing or character people actually do want to see because drabble or not, there isn't much else. *shrug*

(I agree that if people write drabbles and post them every other day anyway, then they should probably wait a bit.)
