I am a Furry.
I have no problems admitting this. For the most part, I -- personally -- don't get a lot of flack for it, even on the big, wide Internet. Part of me likes to think that this is because I demonstrate myself to be a sane, rational person with a hobby, as opposed to jumping down the throats of other people when so much as one tiny insult is levied my way.
Almost two years ago, I wrote
an essay about Furries who can't shut up about being 'fursected' and all. So, I'm acknowledging that these people exist, and I'm also going to state that, for the record, I don't consider myself to be one of this group. I'm all for standing up and defending oneself, but I also want to invoke one of those classy JF "Please Stop Being On My Side" icons when I see these people in action, if'n you know what I mean.
Still, there's one level of Internet... I don't want to call it 'bigotry,' but something akin to unfair prejudice, against Furries... which comes from people who, in all honesty, have a
really skewed viewpoint when it comes to bashing folks like myself.
While I still maintain that Furry is, in and of itself, not a 'sexual' thing, I will cheerfully and shamelessly admit that I get off on the mental concept of waifish, two-legged fox-person getting teh_hot_mansecks from big, beefy, two-legged tiger-person (and so forth and so on; you get the idea). So I'm not going to claim 'innocence' that I don't have my quirks and kinks when it comes to my Fandom o' Choice. I'm keeping that in mind when I say what I say here.
The whole 'Something Awful' brand of Furry-bashing got old a long time ago, and ceased to be funny long before then. But beyond that, there are more 'l33t' and 'h4rdc0r3' boards than ol' SA who are into stuff that make Furry sex look downright
normal.
Are any of you familiar with the concept of 'guro?' The name comes from a Japanized abbreviation for grotesque -- and with damn good reason. 'Guro' artwork is stuff where you'll have something like (usually) a helpless little girl, who's had her limbs chopped off to stumps, has her vagina gapingly stretched by some torture device, and has her abdomen sliced open with her intestines pulled out and stuffed in her own mouth. Any or all of these ideas can be combined, expanded upon, and... well, even thinking about it makes me sort of nauseous, so I'll let you use your imaginations (if you so choose, which I won't blame you if you don't). Moreover, these girls are typically depicted as being still alive, just to add to the 'fun.'
Now, I don't mean to be the Pot dialing up Mr. Kettle, but that's just fucking
sick. And there's a LOT of this stuff out there. Now, on boards where this stuff is (dare I say) popular, the forumites
still go off whining and moaning about how Furries are depraved and sick for getting off to the idea of sentient animal-people boning each other.
Do I have weird kinks? Uh, yeah. I don't expect any 'Average Joe' type person to 'get it' when it comes to finding an anthropomorphic wolf sexually attractive (truth be told,
I don't even know exactly why I'm into stuff; I gave up trying to rationalize it to myself a long time ago). But, really... if your sexual kinks involve things like Lolita Complexes, butchered little schoolgirls, and clips of the Nicholas Berg beheading, how can you honestly keep a straight face in calling
Furries weird and sick?
Am I being wanky? Why yes! But I still standy by my (wanky) sentiment.
