dear condescending fans I get that our show is very likely to be cancelled, and in the face of that, you're defensive about loving the show. I get that. But this narrative that this show is some kind of high art that only the smart and educated can understand, and that you're some kind of drooling moron if you don't appreciate the meandering navel-gazing wastes of episodes in the middle of the season artful, masterful way the writers wove this season's plots is really fucking annoying. I'm glad that your "MFA-in-writing" told you how special and carefully contextual all the hidden, coded messages in the season were, but a lot of people disliked them and thought it was so much wasted space and angsting emo-teenager-ness and plots that could have been done in half the time and been infinitely more tolerable. So many people, in fact, that the show is teetering on the brink of cancellation heaven. So you rely on calling all those irritated fans idiots, and say how other, more popular shows are a "chancre" on society (yes, SPN and 24 fans, your show is for idiots and it's ruining the world, didn't you know?, and go on about how this show is the next "Mad Men" and the writer is "just like Whedon" (I swear, if I hear it compared to The Wire, I'm going to start punching people). Look, I and a lot of other people like what they're doing with it now, but think it's too little, too late. That's a valid opinion, even if it's not yours, and people who hold it aren't stupid or less educated than you. Get over yourselves.
Also, people can like whichever characters they want and dislike whichever characters they want without getting your permission in advance. Because some people are angry at their favorite character getting offed and no longer care about the show doesn't make them "irrational". The title character is your favorite. That's great. But people are perfectly within their rights not to like her, or the way the show portrays her. Yes, you can be a fan of a show and not glom onto some parts of it. Really. Again, get the hell over yourselves.

Dear special snowflakes, omigosh, you're so right! It's TERRIBLE when people criticize your theories! I mean, don't they know? They're THEORIES! Look it up in the dictionary. Have you, you mean curs? Good. Now you know what a THEORY is! Since the dawn of time and the advent of theories, no one has ever poked holes in them, critiqued them, debated them -- nobody but the meanest of mean and nasty deviants! They refused to appreciate theories for the special, precious grains of thought that they were. And what a depressing state we live in, when scientists, philosophers, think tanks and the like make their money and fame off of tearing apart these underappreciated gems we call theories. I relate to you. I really do. When someone comes along and tells you your theory about that continuity error being a super secret clue is kind of stupid, a piece of me dies. Out of sympathy. For you. When someone comes along and asks how that character who's interacted with so many people and is one of the bodies that makes up the number "6" and asks, hold up, how the fuck is that possible, how could this hoax you propose go on for so long without anyone saying "Yo, this person you think exists? Doesn't", I can't sleep at night. I'm too busy crying. Who do these bastards think they are, engaging you in a debate? They should GTFO and take their Earth logic meanness with them! Don't they know this is Sparta LOST, where people have the self-made delusion are encouraged to overanalyze look deeply into every aspect of the show? My goodness! What will these scum think of next? That Benjamin Linus is a middle-aged, Caucasian male with brown hair and light blue eyes? Ha! You, you brave souls who dare to think, you know better! You know he's really a sweet little girl from the Dominican Republic who Sayid was trying to build that school for! So I salute you. So I say go on theorizing, keep on trucking, defy the dogs who bay and snap at you with their "DUDE WTF"s and "this makes no sense"s and "actually your statement is contradicted by canon"s! Keep on theorizing for the sake of theorizing, because you and I both know that the showrunners are on our side and would never, ever make fun of a theory. Yours truly, A concerned fan | | 4:54p |
Dear specific Fandomsecrets troll: WE GET IT. You think that the film version of this particular comic is the most misogynistic piece of crap ever to hit the big screen. WE GOT IT THE FIRST TIME YOU POSTED SECRETS ABOUT IT. One a day is a bit much, but THREE TO FOUR A DAY IS OVER THE TOP. Please get a new hobby. Feel free to pick up a copy of the graphic novel that the movie was based on on your way out of the fandom, since it looks like you might not have read it in the first place. Or if you did, it doesn't look like you understood it at all.
