If you sign up for a challenge, it's generally accepted that you will either turn in your story by the deadline or let the person in charge of the challenge know that you're either dropping out or will be late.

What's so hard about a simple e-mail letting you know if you're not going to be available to finish a story in time? Look, I know what time of year it is and how hectic and busy it can be. Hell, I'm pretty damn busy myself right now and I've got deadlines for challenges to meet myself. And you know what? I'm going to fucking meet them.

The word count wasn't huge. It was small. And it wasn't like you were being forced to write for someone's exact tastes, you were just supposed to write a little something for holiday fun.

Apparently for some people, that's just too much effort.

Word. How difficult is it to admit "I give up on this challenge" to yourself? It saves the organizer of the challenge so much distress over someone's unfulfilled request because they have time to find a back-up writer and the person you wrote for doesn't have to sit around twiddling his/her thumbs, either.

In one challenge I was part of, a huge HP one, I think two of the members actually died. That's got to be a hard one for a mod to handle. I found myself wondering how they'd found out.

Please don't talk about failing challenges. I'm in a fragile state.

(I'm going to meet my deadlines and write things that don't suck. I'm going to meet my deadlines and write things that won't suck. I'm going to...)

Thank you. And please don't whine when you can't participate due to failure. It's called consequences to your actions, or indeed lack thereof.
