Dear Fanfic Standards Brigade,

You don't like a certain kind of fic? Fine. That doesn't mean that everyone else in your fandom has to agree with you. And it certainly doesn't mean that they have to stop writing things you don't like, because unless the fic in question is a gift fic that you specifically requested, the author isn't obliged to cater to your tastes.

And while we're on the subject of potentially squicky fanfics, "I like to write/read incest fics" and "I like to fuck my relatives" are not synonymous terms. Same goes for every other possible squick. What someone likes to read or write about are not necessarily indicative of their personal experience.

Sincerely hoping that you learn the difference between fantasy and reality,
And hoping that you learn to get over yourself in the meantime,

You're kidding! You mean if I read a story about Fred and George sharing some special brotherly love, that doesn't mean I want to create an identical twin brother so I can do the same thing?

On a more serious note, that's always been an issue with me too. If anything a writer writes about is something that they want to do, then I'm scard to death of Steven King. "Oh, if only I could become a rabid dog! Or a cat that came back from the dead! Or an evil, sinister, murdering clown! God, why were you so unfair to make me born a human male!"

If what you write about hints at things you'd like to do in real life, than it would really suck to be Stephen King's friends or neighbors.

Annoyingly, people make this kind of speculation about him all the time. Tim Burton, too.

Oh, so much word. Especially on the squicks bit... so, wait, according to that logic, because I like to write gay sex, it means I secretly wish I were a gay male so I could actually do it? I'd rather not suddenly grow a dick, thx. My current parts are quite good enough for me.

You don't like a certain kind of fic? Fine. That doesn't mean that everyone else in your fandom has to agree with you.

And it also means that if someone doesn't like a certain kind of fic, they're not obliged to read it, nor hang around people who like/write that kind of fic if it bothers them so damn much. There's plenty of people in fandom, if you don't like what a certain group likes, maybe... *gasp* FIND ANOTHER GROUP THAT SUITS YOUR INTERESTS BETTER. Why is "don't like, don't read" such a hard concept?
