and why exactly is your stupid ass telling me this?
Why do some people--especially those under the age of, oh, sixteen--feel compelled to always announce that they hate a certain character on a certain show in communities or on message boards? And why do they always feel compelled to say that to people who are fans of that character? It shouldn't matter, but it bugs the shit out of me. I don't go around doing the same to them, why can't they take their opinion and shove it up their petulant little asses?

Because they're young and stupid and think the world revolves around them and their opinions.

Agreed 100%. When I tell someone I like a character, that is not an automatic invitation for them to respond with "Oh, well, I think he/she sucks."

Of course, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but damn! Is there any point in appearing just to tell me you think someone sucks when I'm praising that someone? You could at least make your own post, y'know.

So damn much WORD. I hate it when folk come into a discussion clearly geared towards a character they do not like and make it a point just to come in and say how much they hate that character. Or, hell, it's annoying even when they mention it for no reason at all. People do this with couple preferences, too, and it drives me totally batty. If the idea of a certain character or pairing offends someone that damn much, why are they joining in a discussion for fans of that character or pairing in the first place? Wading in with "OMG, (character/pairing) is soooo *insert derogatory remark*, I don't understand how anybody could like them"-esque statements likely isn't going to change anybody's opinion.

I especially hate it when people do that, then pull out the "I WAS JUST STATING MY OPINION OMG WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ALL SO MEAN" card when the fans of the character/pairing get upset. As I've ranted about before, constantly mentioning how much you hate a character around fans of that character is not stating one's opinion, it is trolling.

That annoys me too, and not just for characters, but for pairings and books/TV shows/movies too. If you hate the show that much, then why are you repeatedly posting in a comm devoted to that show? It defies logic.

They're not always under sixteen. :P I've run across a couple of folks who've practically made a career at it. If you consider harassment a viable career option...

One of fandom's many mysteries, I suppose.

Fuck, it's not just in fandom. I was watching the news the other night and some teen girl wrote into the station just to tell this one reporter how much he SUCKED and how she thought he was a LOSEROMG and was never watching again.

Some peoples' children, man.

Because people can't deal with the concept that they are just characters, and whether you like or dislike them, they aren't truly real enough to hate.
