First rant.
Dear Transformers (any series) fandom,

As someone (I forgot who) so eloquently put it: "Het and slash are not matter and antimatter. You are not going to explode for liking both."

Please heed these words, for they are the truth. Also, there is no law that states that you can't have het and slash pairings in the same fic. Yes, I know many BNFs will tell you to ONLY write slash pairing OR ELSE, but they're just batshit crazy bluffing. "Or else" WHAT? They'll strangle you through the monitor? Please.

(And speaking of slash, why is there no humanslash? Are we so busy wanking over the sexual orientation of plastic robots that we forget that humans can be homo/bisexual? Or are we too busy bashing the humans, since character bashing seems to be some Transfic priority?)

Not a lot of love,
Fourth Impact

P.S.: This could apply to any other fandom with similar "het vs. slash" ship wars.

P.S.S.: Regaurding the folks who don't believe robots have gender in the first place - I'm saving you for a different rant. But since many of you have been acting like complete paranoid asshats misbehaving, the rant won't be very pretty.

We've had het vs. slash fights? When was this?

I'm more of the opinion that they are androgynous, and sexual orientation isn't an issue when they don't have an actual sex. So perhaps prefering the curves to the flat chests is just personal preference.

I've seen some Charlene/Skids smutfic (was actually decently done, if very very strange) and Bumblebee/Spike. Not sure if there's any Tracks/Raoul or Spike/Raoul outside of a few jokes.

A couple years ago, but it resurfaces every now and then. Hence the rant.

The "androgynous" interpretation is sometimes thrown into the ship wars, usually as a weapon against het writers. Of course when someone uses the androgyne card, their argument tends to make little sense. Especially if the user makes the robots have buttsex (complete with organic-looking manparts!) in their own fics. (Besides, if the robots really have no gender like in the Marvel comics, there IS no het. So what's the big deal? Ah, I should just save all that for the rant.)

As for the human ships, I actually meant human/human pairings - like Spike/Chip or Carlos/Rad. As big as Transfandom is, I'm surprised humanslash doesn't exist.

Wait, what? That would make het and slash of equal value and worth, not put down one or the other. I know of androgyne-fic supporters who write both het and slash (and once that one femme who dated all the Constructicons at the same time). And if they're having organic-style sex, the arguement flies out the window anyway because that is not androgyne.

I saw a rather bad Carlos/Rad one, and vague allegations made about Billy/Fred. That count?

One femme dating all 5 Constructicons? This, I have to see...so I can scare my roommate the Constructy fan with it.

The fic is on ff.net here: Love me, Love my Gestalt.

*ahem* I'd also advise going to her website, insecticons.com, to enjoy fics, Insecticomics, and the firmly stated datum that there are six Constructicons. Wayward's big on making sure people know that.

*nodnods* What threw me was that I'd oriignally typed Combaticons instead of Constructicons. And...yeah...*hangs head*

The story actually was pretty cool, thanks for the point.

Wayward has cool fics. For instance, Dreadmoon is the only decent OC Starscream love interest I've ever seen. And he's cool in his own right as well.

On the other hand, I'm really sick of the delusional fantwits that insist that he really IS canon. I seem to remember it started off as a joke. But y'know, when people start DEMANDING things, it's no longer a joke. I'm also sick of people who act like he's the ONLY good OC and nobody else can be trusted to write OCs.

(And I thought Wayward didn't like het?)

This I have never heard of in my circles. Wayward's a bit popular, but she's no BNF. I didn't think she even has delusional fantwits.

(Wayward writes het. Well, polyhet. What she has a thing against is bad Suehet)

Eh, well this was also a few years ago too. In fact, I seem to remember Dreadmoon's name being tossed around a few times during the ship wars (I think he was supposed to be "proof" that slash was better written than het). Let's just say Transfandom was NOT a fun place to be 3-4 years ago.

What she has a thing against is bad Suehet

That's good. It's just that years ago, I remember her saying some rather..."rude" things about het writers and especially the gendered faction. But then again, she may have changed by now.

*shock* We had ship wars? Hot damn, I need to not stay on the "safe" boards if this is going on.

*shrug* I recall she once did an experiment by taking one of her slashier fics, changing Dreadmoon to Dreadluna, and making all his male pronouns female. It was agreed that this made him seem a bit more of a Sue, even when nothing else changed. I'd say that proves that slash is simply seen as better than het in some places, not that she has a bias against it.

I think it's a really easy mistake to make, since almost all the other combiners have five members.

Exactly. I used to be confused when people did that - now I think they just wanted authors to stop writing their least favorite pairings. :p

Sounds great! :)

I think I need to go see the dark side of TF slash sometime, because the worst I've seen is bad porn or things that are too fluffy. Any recs?

[info]fourth_impact

Unfortuantely, no. I wasn't on the wank scene until last year, so I didn't think to make any recs. I checked back at the forums I used to go to, but all the wankstorms have been BAHLEETED by now. All I have is memory. :\

it was about 3-4 years ago that all this happened. Translash was beginning to get popular with little resistance. Despite the fact that there was no real resistance, many slashers went apeshit anyway. Some of them seemed paranoid that resistance was just around the corner (and they apparently needed to take the initiative). Other were paranoid about badfics and pretty much accused all het writers of Suehet and "sticky" fics. Others just seemed like they had a bug up their ass that no one was writing their OTPs. Obviously, this pissed off the het (and some gen) writers, and they jumped headlong into the wank.

The worst is that it wasn't even funny wank. It was "WTF is wrong with you people?!" -type wank. I was actually scared out of Transfandom (and slash) for a few months.

Pff. Resistance? "Energon" practically writes the slash for us, so I personally have an excuse.

*wowed* Wow. Maybe I should be glad that I mussed it, then. I didn't know any of that was going on.

Or was it the GoBots who had genders?

The gender thing is all over the map. They have no gender in the Marvel comics, but they do in the Japanese continuities. The American cartoon is kinda up in the air, but given that its audience are little boys, I tend to lean toward "gendered."

I think GoBots had genders, but I'm not sure.

I'd lean toward gendered in the American cartoons since they made a big deal in the episode that first featured Elita-One of referring to her and her companions as "Female" Autobots.

"Het and slash are not matter and antimatter. You are not going to explode for liking both."

I really, really like that quote. I like any pairing (though I usually prefer gen), so long as it's well-written. It's good to know I won't asplode.
