I am not left-handed!
Okay, so, apparently, the Zelda fandom has gotten tired of bitching about Twilight Princess's release date being pushed back (numerous times, so I've heard, but I've only just started watching the fandom, so I can't say for certain on that). Because they have found pettier things to get their panties into twists about.

Apparently, it looks like Link is gonna be right-handed in the Wii release of Twilight Princess. Now, for those unfamiliar with Zelda, Link has been (at least primarily) left-handed from the days of the first game back in 1987.

So of course, the fans are a little irked about this- not entirely without some merit, given that many of them probably grew up with Link from the time they were wee tots just outta potty training, and that's something that's been consistant for him.

Wait.

Did I say a little irked? More like childishly stomping their feet. I'm not sure some of those people finished that potty training.

There's bemoaning about how it's 'just not right', it 'looks wrong' (admittedly, it's a bit jarring for someone familiar with it), and the obligatory 'I'm a leftie myself, so this is crushing. :('

Then we get this guy. Apparently, making Link not a leftie is the same as making him wear a business suit and carry a gun instead of the green tunic-and-hat set and sword that we all recognize and love.

What?

Okay, so the sane portion here is speculation about why that might be. There's mention of how flicking the Wiimote (augh, I feel dirty typing that) will be how you control the sword- meaning, what movments you make, Link will also make with his sword- might be the reason given that, you know, a vast majority of the world is right-handed.

If it'd just died there, that'd be fine.

So why were there two subsequent posts about it? By this time, at least, most people have calmed down and realized that it's purely a technical decision, and the possibility remains that Link will change his dominant hand depending on the hand the player uses, and the GC version will leave him a leftie, but of course, there's still plenty of grumbling and bitching about how 'he's always been that way!', 'this is leftie-discrimination!' and 'I'M SO CRUSHED I WAS JUST LIKE LINK YOU BASTARDS.'

Come on, people. Why can't we let the damn horse lie and see what happens when the game is actually, I dunno, released?

Small little wank, but given how the [info]zelda_lovers comm seems to react to things it doesn't like? I don't forsee this entirely dying until after the game comes out and we see how things are actually gonna work. And maybe not even then. (Man, the tissy fit people threw about the fan movie! I think these guys just like finding things to bitch about.)

I've been playing Zelda games for twenty damn years and this is seriously the first time I've noticed he holds the sword in his left hand.

I'm pretty sure this isn't the first time Link's gone right handed, I remember seeing this issue brought up in a game magazine years ago over some official art or something.

But the whole subject of this wank is hilarious, regardless.

Nintendo are so very cunning. They knew we rabid Zelda fans were going to go and buy the Gamecube version so now they're forcing us to buy Wiis earlier than we wanted.

They pushed back the release date of Twilight Princess again and again. Why is waiting an extra month so hard after all that? The Gamecube version is still being released.

I noticed that sometimes he has brown hair and sometimes he's blond but I never noticed he was a lefty.

I never noticed until someone pointed it out to me recently. Personally I was more concerned with hitting things and destroying every pot or bush on the screen.

That said, I do have the vague perception that there's something 'cool' about Link being a lefty (and don't left-handed swordfighters, tennis players, etc. have an advantage over righties?), and it's a shame that they're making him more 'common', but, um. WHO CARES!? ZELDA. NEW ZELDA. I WANT ZELDA NOW DAMMIT. *rolls around*

WAAAAAAAAAAAANT.

It always makes me laugh to see this fandom of mine wank. LoZ fans also do their share of shipping discussion but it's the small details that set them off in droves.

I personally had noticed that Link was left-handed and while I'm sure it will be strange to look at when I first play Twilight Princess I'm not about to lose sleep over it.

The fan movie Link's hair is hysterical.

Eh. It's upsetting (not really the right word, because I'm not upset, really) to me for two reasons.

1. It is weird for me to see screens with a right handed Link.
2. I'm going to be using the Wiimote in my left hand, so it's going to be giving me the problem Nintendo tried to solve.

Okay, three reasons.

3. In order to achieve the "right handed Link", they didn't just flip him, they actually mirrored the entire game. So now Link is right handed and everyone else you meet is left handed.

I'm not entirely sure anyone from zelda_lovers is aware of the fact that the Link from Twilight Princess is not the same Link as any other game. None of them are, with the exception of possibly the Link in OoT/MM. They're not even the same Zeldas in all the games. This fact has been stated by the creators.

And who the fuck cares, anyway? As long as the game is good and worth the wait (and actually comes out? XD), why does it matter what hand he holds his damned sword in? As long as I can actually play it, that's all I care about.

Question. How difficult would it be for game designers to make a game where you can choose the protagonist's handedness? I mean with games out where you can customise your character's appearance amoung genders, races, and hairstyles, is handedness that hard?

And it might shut these kind of people up. Maybe.

I could give a flying fart about whether Link holds his precious pointy thing in his left or right hand since I've been waiting so long.

What I want to kow is if it's going to be a pain in the ass to play this game on the Wiimote thing if I am left handed. Having my ass kicked by some weenie little enemy just becuase I'm trying to adapt dominant hands would really suck.

OH. MY. GOOD. HOLY. GOD. Honestly guys, WHO caaaaaaaaaaaares, I've seen some pretty damn huge pieces of entitlement among fans that have made me roll my eyes but to throw a fit on whether or not Link is left handed? Honestly guys, in every incarnation of Link throughout Hyrule history he's's still the same damn Link, whether he has brown hair or blonde whether he's been called into save Hyrule as a teenager or a kid, whether he's had a sister or a cousin or an uncle or a grandmother he's still the same. damn. Link that we as fans of the games love playing with.

I can see fans getting upset if say Link was given a voice actor or some dialogue since yanno what a person says-thus leading to what a person thinks actually IS a huge part of a character but what hand he shoves through Ganon's head or chops a skulltulla in half doesn't matter, so sit down, shut up and bitch about the game being pushed back again. Not what hand Link KILLS THINGS with. I'm an old time Zelda fan too guys and you know what? Never in my years as a RIGHT HANDED person playing with a character who uses his LEFT HAND effected me WHATSOEVER so there for it shouldn't effect you. It's not YOU out there fighting monsters is it? No, it's a GAME.

Also, I could have sworn I've seen Link change hands and use both fighting. I honestly thought he was ambidexterous (sp?)
