I am not left-handed! Okay, so, apparently, the Zelda fandom has gotten tired of bitching about Twilight Princess's release date being pushed back (numerous times, so I've heard, but I've only just started watching the fandom, so I can't say for certain on that). Because they have found pettier things to get their panties into twists about. Apparently, it looks like Link is gonna be right-handed in the Wii release of Twilight Princess. Now, for those unfamiliar with Zelda, Link has been (at least primarily) left-handed from the days of the first game back in 1987. So of course, the fans are a little irked about this- not entirely without some merit, given that many of them probably grew up with Link from the time they were wee tots just outta potty training, and that's something that's been consistant for him. Wait. Did I say a little irked? More like childishly stomping their feet. I'm not sure some of those people finished that potty training. There's bemoaning about how it's 'just not right', it 'looks wrong' (admittedly, it's a bit jarring for someone familiar with it), and the obligatory 'I'm a leftie myself, so this is crushing. :(' Then we get this guy. Apparently, making Link not a leftie is the same as making him wear a business suit and carry a gun instead of the green tunic-and-hat set and sword that we all recognize and love. What? Okay, so the sane portion here is speculation about why that might be. There's mention of how flicking the Wiimote (augh, I feel dirty typing that) will be how you control the sword- meaning, what movments you make, Link will also make with his sword- might be the reason given that, you know, a vast majority of the world is right-handed. If it'd just died there, that'd be fine. So why were there two subsequent posts about it? By this time, at least, most people have calmed down and realized that it's purely a technical decision, and the possibility remains that Link will change his dominant hand depending on the hand the player uses, and the GC version will leave him a leftie, but of course, there's still plenty of grumbling and bitching about how 'he's always been that way!', 'this is leftie-discrimination!' and 'I'M SO CRUSHED I WAS JUST LIKE LINK YOU BASTARDS.' Come on, people. Why can't we let the damn horse lie and see what happens when the game is actually, I dunno, released? Small little wank, but given how the Post a comment in response: |
