Hey look, it's everyone's favorite!
Thoughts on yaoi slash! Colber Report/Daily Show style! [info]rocza posts to several different communities about a new group s/h/it is starting, the [info]tds_tcr_academe. According to the user info (which the OP so lovingly included in his multiple other community posts):

The original academe was a society whose purpose it was to promote a particular aspect of knowledge or culture. This community is for people who enjoy The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, but are frustrated with the influx of fans who don't have the ability to critically think about issues.

Or, in planer speak: no fangirls, no slash, no fluff. This is a place to talk about the shows and what's on the shows with people who can actually finish a sentence without saying "squee" and who realize that sometimes, a slice of pizza is just a slice of pizza. If you insist on squees and pizzasex, this is not the place for you.

Because fake news is SERIOUS FUCKING BUSINESS. Wait a minute..what’s that? No slash? Uh oh. This cross-community wank pretty much has it all! Some choice bits..

NO! WE CAN’T ALL JUST GET ALONG!

Our Moderation will be way more 1337! (By the way, don’t like it DON’T JOIN!!!11)

Damn straight it could. :D

OMFG HOMOPHOBIA!

But..but..I like slash AND intelligent comedy!

ICON FLAMING-oh snap, is that some Godwin’s law over there?

tds_tcr_snark gets some pointing and laughing action in

(First time reporter..wee!)

Edit: Links fixed now.

Edit2x: Have some bonus slightly related</b> background history in the [info]artemis77 vs [info]rocza arena. Ooooh.

Edit3x: Thank you mousie for giving us more backstory wank</b> on our OP [info]rocza.

Dude, I'm just glad you reported. So far my only substantial contribution to this fandom is reporting wank, and if you hadn't reported this, I would've had to.

There's a funny bit of history going on here too. The last Daily Report reported wank was over slashy icons and, surprise, featured most everybody up in this round. Then there was an unreported bit of wank on thedailyshow, where some poor n00b shared her thoughts on yaoi (actually, the significance of Stewart and the 9/11 episode iirc) and all the OMGITSCOMEDYLOL peeps jumped all over her. Sadly, the entry was deleted before I had the chance to report.

Now I really regret I didn't save that wank, because I'd really like to know if there's overlap between them and the people who now cry how there's no intellectual discussion anymore boo-hoo and fleeing towards the academe.

The history of slash comes from women writing about Kirk and Spock. Typically younger women, too - it's the one area of slash that has been extensively researched. The three best known ethnographic and textual works on this are Mirna Cicioni's "Male Pair Bonds and Female Desire in Fan Slash Writing", C. Harris & A. Alexander (editors) "Theorizing Fandom: Fans, Subculture and Identity" and Constance Penley's "NASA/Trek: Popular Science and Sex in America."

The research that has been collected suggests that as much as 98% of all slash is written by and for women, because much like men find lesbian relationships erotic, women find male relationships erotic.

That same research indicates that real person slash become popular with the rise of the boybands, and that most real person slash is written by girls/younger women than "normal" slash.

Please to be knowing what you're talking about before you lecture others.

*headdesks*

*throws Textual Poachers at her head*

And we get the "slash = porn" argument again. We could make another BINGO game with this thread.

Aww, dude.

You had the understandable idea to start your own comm because your needs were not being met by the existing comms. And you made mod-ly rules about slash.

Fair enough.

But then you HAD to crosspost and slap the other comms with your user info like you were a bitter lover, instead of just contacting the "many people" who wanted such a comm and saying, "Hey, new comm."

And now you're all surprised by the wank.

Is it okay that my first response ro reading rocza's 'Hey, I made a new community because you guys giggle too much!' was to think 'Oh la, good riddance, my lord/lady of elitists!'

This person has quite the history of intellecualwanking it up. I genuinely hope this community takes off for him/her so he/she never has to face the rest of us again. And that the more senseible ones continue to share their intellectual insights on the shows in the original communities, because as much as rocza thinks, we don't opress all serious thought there. If he/she was being repressed, it was because, oops, he/she's sort of an ass~

I've come to the conclusion that when one elitis leaves/gets banned from fandom (ie: Fruchick) then another one takes his/her place.

Could Rocza be the new elitist? I'm not sure.

All I do know is that I leave for a weekend and everything in that fandom goes batshit crazy... well, more so than normal.

I am very protective of Stephen Colbert, and part of this impulse to protect Stephen is to shield him from the nutcases in his fan base.

I'm confused. Which side of the nutcase line does this person think she's standing on?

Spending time on this type of fiction warps reality in the mind of the writer and the reader. It blurs the line between fandom and reality. It's not healthy, and it's not safe.

Okay, important safety tip. Thanks, Egon!

I salute you and wish you godspeed on your quest to protect someone you'll never meet from the pervy imaginations of other people you'll never meet.

*No, this doesn't mean people can't post funny, fluffy, sense of humour things. We're not all suits'n'tea'n'crumpets here. But, in the wise words of one member, this is more than an online, The Daily Show/The Colbert Report themed Tiger Beat.

So where the rules say "no fluff", it doesn't mean no fluff. And you can post something funny-- something funny being distinguished from a sense-of-humour thing. Plus, "humour"? "tea'n'crumpets"? Isn't this person from California?

Finally, I just have to say...

I would quite sincerely like your feedback and comments, and all that heartfelt-ly cheesy wanting this to be a fun place for everyone.

...whaaaa?

Dude, just let [info]rocza go. Yeah, she pretty much called you stupid, but now that she has her new shiny community she might stop bitching about behavior in the original one. Maybe.
