Yo dawgs, here's some real street wank for ya UP TOP
On The Comics Journal message board, a poster calling himself blackfoot starts a thread asking "what is art theft anyway?"
It quickly becomes clear in the course of the thread that elsewhere, on Comic Con's message board Blackfoot had criticized the art of one James Bogner, Bogner invoked Ebert's Law (this is what "Ebert's Law" means), asking Blackfoot if he could draw any better, and Blackfoot responded by taking a caricature of Mick Jagger Bogner had drawn, cropping it, and using the "spraypaint" tool in MSPaint to shpritz an afro on Mick. All this becomes revealed quickly on the first page of this tcj.com thread, yet despite this, the TCJ regulars keep referring to Blackfoot "copying" or "tracing" the art, and trying to explain why this isn't good as though Blackfoot weren't obviously a troll.
On page 2, Steve Hogan and others identify Blackfoot's "drawing" for what it really is, yet James Bogner continues to take Blackfoot seriously. Others try to give Blackfoot drawing advice, so Blackfoot on the middle of Page 4, posts more of his mad skills in the form of a couple of hilarious drawings of cartoon fish, then on Page 6 Steve Hogan finally spells it out for everybody by explaining that Blackfoot's "drawing" really is just Bogner's drawing slightly modified in some computer program.
At THAT point, Blackfoot's sole defender, "Darren Tweage" joins the board just to insist Blackfoot's version is better and to ask the musical question "Is it stealing if some one improves it."
Then Blackfoot reappears to bust a few rhymes: "I ain't gone give up, No I ain't gone let up. No I ain't gone shuddup and ain't gone never let them haters get to me. Oh, no-no, They'll never get to me. I ain't gon' give up, no I ain't gon' let up. No I ain't gon' shuddup." (this goes on for a few paragraphs.)
Finally, on the 7th and last page, "Darren Tweage" mysteriously signs his post "Blackfoot" (because it wasn't painfully obvious that he was a sockpuppet before) and the thread is quietly locked.
I don't know, I found it funny. Posting to Fandom_Wank because I figure a drawing of Mick Jagger is fan art.

(for your edification: Here is Bogner's original Mick caricature And here is Blackfoot's "version". You really need to see these to understand how funny the TCJ thread is.)

(Many thanks to anne_noonlight for finding the Ebert's Law post for me)

EDIT: In another thread Blackfoot asks the board admin why his thread was shut down and assures everyone he isn't Darren Tweage: "Darren Tweage = Blackfoot, No! It want fly. " (Thanks to the anonymous commenter for pointing that out.)

I joined TCJ so that I could improve my skills as an artist.

First you draw an S...then you draw a more different S...

Trogdor is Consequence #4 in my classroom, after "referral to discipline office." One of the students in my scifi lit class wrote it on the bottom of my discipline poster, so I kept it.

My scifi students were made of awesome.

Bogner invoked Ebert's Law

There needs to be a law against referring to the name of a law without explaining what it means. Because unless the law's name is Godwin or Snacky, my brain is too full to keep them all cross-referenced.

This would apply equally to jurisimprudence laws and Roger Ebert's Glossary of Movie terms.

If I knew where the definition of Ebert's law was located I would've linked it. It seems to me the definition was self-explanatory in the context I gave it, but if you want to create a new law (that I also won't have the link to when the time comes) get on with your bad self.

That's a 3 year old post so you can see why I didn't go looking through the Jurisimprudence archives for it. But, thanks. Now people don't have to wonder what I meant.

The userinfo had a list of laws in alphabetical order. I'm far, far too tired right now to have gone through the archives.

Haha, I was wondering how you found it so quickly. I always go to Jurisimprudence directly from the link on F_W's user info, thus bypassing the Jurisimprudence user info so I never even realized they had that.
Maybe I should just edit out the reference to Ebert's Law in the original report? It evidently doesn't add anything except a bit of excess verbiage.

I'd suggest editing in the link to the law explanation for clarity, but I'm finding questions, normal thought processes and words with more than two syllables difficult to comprehend right now.

Yeah, but if I edited out reference to the law altogether, then this whole thread would be totally confusing to anyone coming in afterwards and that would be funny (to me).
But, alright then.

Nah, just turn the Ebert's Law reference into a link to the Jurisimprudence description.

Illegal shirts from Thailand. The creator probably wasn't as proficient with English as he claimed in his letter of application. That is, if letters of application are actually used in illegal shirt design. I have no idea.

Portal of Evil fans will know this as an ATOR, named for a guy who just couldn't keep his sockpuppets straight.

I think the sockpuppet's full name was actually Ator the Fighting Eagle, after a character from one of the more popular Mystery Science Theatre 3000 movies, but the act of posting under the wrong sockpuppet account itself got shortened to simply ATOR. As in, "dude, you just totally ATORed".

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

That is correct. Also, Ator's original ATOR happened on Old Man Murray before POE even existed, so Codehappy probably wouldn't be any help.
