We got a troll at Joystiq.

"Daver" claims to be a concerned parent, but seems to spend much more time badmouthing games. Let's watch!

"4. Now there's proof if someone else is playing with your Wii. "
Best line ever!

If he couldn't tell before, I really pity him.

I'm reading through the comments, and I don't find Daver to be that much of a troll. Sure, he makes some pretty generalized statements at the beginning and pisses off some people, but he supports his statements and semi-apologises, as well. It's not like he was deliberately riling them, or something - at least, it seemed that way to me - and he stated his opinion and stuck with it. However, I'm not too good at reading through these types of messageboards (where there's no "reply to specific comment" option, and it's not indented to reflect that), so I may be totally off.

I would like to know what daver is doing on a website devoted solely to video games talking about how people shouldn't play video games.

Sums it up, maybe.

That is true... I must have skipped over that comment - I was skimming for mentions of Daver to avoid reading all those entries ^^;

Perhaps for the same reason that Star Wars fans seem to hate Star Wars?

I'm confused, he makes some normal posts at first, talking about features and how he and his wife play Brain Age, then seems to go off on a tangent ab out any parent who lets their kids play video games are bad parents. Okay!

Anyway, overall I found the 'ZOMG Nintendo is watching us 1984 OMG' thing more wanky. Talk about overreaction.

Wow, I must be the opposite of a good parent, because I'd like to see my kid play more video games, because they're fun. I'm giving her my old system when I buy a new one. (She lives with her dad, who is glad I'm doing that.) I hope she plays FFX and we can compare notes.

Why do kids play games and not books? Well, gee, probably because books don't have FMV animation and kickass soundtracks and unlockable secrets and 4-way linkups.

Shit, a good RPG is as good as a book anyway. Books are important, sure, but they're not the absolute perfect form of entertainment.

My mum used to play games for us when we were little and had bad motor/hand-eye skills. Now, she sits and watches as my brother and I tackle Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (which is seriously the best game ever).

...But my mum also spends most of the day texting her friends. She is surgically attached to that phone of hers. So I'm assuming she's not exactly a representative of the norm.

From comment #12. "yeah, that totally sounds like spyware but hey, it's not like I'm downloading smut or hentai on my Wii."

*sporfle* I died a little there. No, really. Sucked the drink right down my throat. But, that was damn funny.
