How are we, exactly?
1. Jubilancy bemoans the sorry state of Domlij fiction and considers creating a new community for "good" domlij fics.

2. Angstslashope lists the pitfalls.

3. Somehow this relates to fandom_wank: the community will start off with good intentions of posting good fic, but as i said, you can't make it exclusive. *you* can't personally choose who joins and who posts (because that's not really how a fic community functions). 'constructive crit' would turn into bashing people who didn't share your taste, and getting offended when those people bashed back. biiiig bitch fights. yep. (how do you think fandom_wank got like it is?)

Are you guys having big bitch fights and not inviting me? *scowls*

Possibly related (??), the Pretty Pretty Princess of Lotrips complains about "disbandment" in the fandom... which, amazingly enough, is an actual word! Apparently, whining and threatening to delete one's journal = good, while "disbandment" = bad.

I joined that comm as soon as I saw it existed, but I'm having second thoughts-- it looks like the Domlijah4eva tru believas may be involved with it, which, no thanks. The only tinhat canon I need in my life is Hollyweirdos.

I just posted a suggestion in Gabby's journal that you all might want an honest to gosh tinhat-free fic community.

However versaphile's lotrips_refugees is woefully underused, so who knows if it'd be helpful.

Ironic that I put "because we take 'Fandom is Fucking Funny' one step too far" on the FW journal description a few weeks ago, or maybe because of it.

Silly things, FW didn't start from Lotrips (or LOTR FPS, whatever)! It did come into being around the time of FIFF yes, but because of smallville. (Or was it n*slash? One of the oldies, they all blur together to me. *pokes Miss W*)

it started sometime before FIFF, in fact.

FIFF was founded a few days after the original [info]daisy_gamgee/ninglor kerfluffle; i remember because i thought that was its inspiration at the time, although i'm not so sure anymore.

and i posted that kerfluffle to f_w when f_w had been around for several weeks at least. (i want to say months, but i can't quite remember when the original f_w started. it was pretty slow at first. and i wasn't in it from the beginning, either.)

some of them are. I adore the premise of it, was actually something I used when I was "debating" with a member of Lotrips. If I recall their answer was something along the lines of: "Well fandom is fucking funny but I don't like anyone with differing opinions to my own". I believe renjenri's default icon has the exact quote, in mocking form of course.

Another possible reading of that line is that it's the bitch fights in LOTR fandom, SV fandom, HP fandom etc. that built Fandom_Wank into a thriving multi-fandom peanut gallery. (We're like Howdy Doodie in a way.)

I love how every Bad Thing anywhere ever in the entire universe comes back to Fandom Wank. It warms the cockles of my cold shrivelled lump-of-coal heart. I have to say, though, this particular wank has a long, long way to go before it reaches the status of the Hitler/N Sync/Harry Potter crossover.
