Attend the Tale of Sweeney Wank!
For the most part, the Sweeney Todd fandom has been very quiet. That was until Johnny Depp was picked to the play the title role in the movie. This brought vomit inducing debates on whether or not Depp can sing the part. The best part is that people have been unable to get their respective underwear out of a twist despite that it’s been months since the announcement.

So over on the one and only IMDB, SummerD links a youtube clip of Johnny Depp supposedly singing in the moive Cry Baby to prove that Depp can sing. Khanum_of_Persia chimes in stating that John Waters has already cleared up that Depp didn’t sing in Cry Baby. Little_Sketchy then writes up a tl;dr report on why she thinks that in the link it is Depp. Khanum_of_Persia is not amused, and then goes on to flap about how Depp fans think they know more than John Waters.

Queue in wankplosion with a side order of meat pies! Oh no, apparently OperaGhost88, pelicans_and_such, and grizabellalover_92 have lost all respect for Khanum_of_Persia.

Meanwhile InuKage-91 takes a condescending tone with Khanum_of_Persia. “ok, you know what? A lot of people who CAN sing dont realize it. A lot of people who are amazing at singing say that they suck and they truly believe it”

All the while PhantomPhan222 and BroadwayBookworm have a small kerfluffle on the side about complaining, hypocrisy, and other such matters. The argument ends with PhantomPhan222 admitting to being a hypocrite, and she’s proud of it!

I just can’t wait for the movie to come out, seeing that these people are already setting themselves up for disappointment. There will be enough wank to last a lifetime.

Dear Johnny Depp:

Please don't suck in this movie. It will only increase the splooge tenfold.

Weird. These people are the same people who figure in the Phantom of the Opera report I'm writing for Bad Penny. They were such good pals then.

I have only the most surface knowledge of Sweeney Todd, but as soon as I heard about this it went to the top of my most anticipated movie list (right after the next PotC movie). Johnny Depp + Tim Burton can do no wrong. Especially when it means there's going to be a new musical movie out :-D ~hopeless fangirl for movie musicals AND Johnny Depp.

I'm no fangirl, but I admit that I've yet to see a film where Depp actually disappointed me. Some of his roles were better done than others, sure, but bad JD is still good acting even at its worst.

I do hope Depp does well in the role. There's also the minor point that Depp may agree to have somebody do the singing for his role, as he did in Cry Baby. But who knows.

Wouldn't it be fun if Burton could get his post-Vincent Price father figure Christopher Lee to sing the Judge?

[I've actually heard Lee sing one of Sweeney's songs, "Epiphany", on a small-press CD in the 90s. He might even make a good Sweeney though he's probably too old now.]

If Audrey Hepburn's voice was dubbed in My Fair Lady, surely there'll be no problem dubbing Depp's in this film.

I think Johnny Depp might be the only possible reason in existence for me to see Sweeny Todd again. I read the original play and saw the musical, and both were horrid. Just plain bad. I would be shocked that there's even a fandom for it, but once you've read Inuyasha/Shake(from Aqua Team Hunger Force), very little surprises you anymore.

Why can't they just dub him like in Cry Baby? Though, if I remember correctly, I think Depp used to be in a band? So maybe he won't be bad at all.
I couldn't stand the Burton version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It really changed the spirit of my fave childhood novel. But I can imagine the Sweeney Todd movie being really good. Burton's choices seemed way too cruel for Wonka. But Sweeney Todd needs a sadistic touch.
Cry Baby for the win. Johnny Depp panty shots <3

What's with all the links to IMDB wank lately? Have all other forums online become such places of peace and light and reason that wankas have to go to the IMDB forums, the place where splooge flows like a mighty river, in order to find wank?

I mean, damn, I could pick a movie at random and probably find wank for it. Sleepaway Camp! *Goes and checks* Yes, I immediately find wank over whether or not it's appropriate for children to watch with the pro-kids-watching-slashers guy calling the other guy a Christian repeatedly even though he says he's not. And then I find lots of wank over whether The Penis was big or not.

It's not that hard to find.

Worth noting: Sondheim himself weighed in on the matter back in August.
Tim Burton, the London-based director behind the proposed film, has been praising Depp’s singing voice, but Sondheim needs to be convinced. The composer has said that he will not approve a cinematic version of his Broadway musical, which he describes as “virtually an opera”, if the main character has to mime rather than sing.

“He wants to make sure that all versions of his works are the best possible,” said his spokesman.

See, I'm taking it personally. Not only are they corrupting my favourite bed time story, but Tim Burton is corrupting my intended profession.

Tim Burton sucks. That's the real heart of it. They need to add a 'fucking stupid' clause to the rules and take away his DGA card. He's a FRANCHISE, not an artist. Depp managed to achieve hypocrisy with PotC and Helena Bonham Carter is just an acting nonentity except when used (ahem, fucked) by Tim Burton. Ah, but they think they're safe on the other side of the screen. Put them on the stage, they'd piss their pants.
