Blood Elves - The Flaming Crusade
I'm not a WoWer myself (I have no MONEY for that) but a friend without a JF account pointed me to this fapfest, and it is both hilarious and sad. And very very wanky. So, one of the reasons WoW is delaying on releasing the Blood Crusade upgrade is because they're altering the appearances of the Blood Elves. Why? Because apparently they received multiple complaints that the male elves looked "too gay". And they also decided to beef up the female elves' racks. Some feedback on the WoW forums, including rather a lot of people being all ICK FEMININITY WTF. Comments may have been deleted - said friend without the JF account is pretty sure the thread was 17 pages long at one point. Another thread. This . . . goes over so very well indeed in the LJ group wow_ladies. A delightful sample of posts: Because of the way it's been presented and the huge arguments surrounding it, it's become about sexism and homophobia and the fact we always have to be considerate of straight boys and their insane fear of anything remotely gay or girlie.
God forbid there be pretty boys in the game, they could be gay! God forbid the girls get some eye candy, the only pretty and sexy in the game should be boobs! God forbid the emotes sound vaguely gay, even in humor, since it offends their delicate senses, etc etc.And another, similar rant here: Blizzard turns around and practically caters to these cretins by saying that an effeminate character is not menacing enough, not strong enough to properly represent the Horde? That, to me, is tantamount to saying that a character that appears feminine is somehow weak. What the hell kind of message is that to send to your players? Especially female ones? Or hey, boys who aren't built like tanks, whether or not they like to kiss other boys?Into this cauldron comes a doormat brave soul contesting the general reaction of WTF WoW PLAYERS STOP BEING HOMOPHOBES AND SEXIST: I've played wow now off and on for a couple of years. I love the game and I love being a girl. That being said. Sometimes, when I read the wow ladies journal I am struck by how true the guys are about us women gamers. I have heard more whining and complaining about people are mean, people are rude, people are male(hehe). Personally, If you want to play a game that is mostly populated with guys start learning to deal with them. Like it or leave it men are rude, play rough, and like to talk sh*t. Like like women with exagerated curves and like to pretend that they are buffed strong men. Accept it or create a game where the rules are otherwise. I don't think a game pointed mostly at just the female gaming population is going to do very well. Mainly because like me alot of female gamers do like to play with the boys. Sometimes I want to be loud obnoxious and do silly things. maybe its just my p**is envy showing up. but I find it funny and entertaining when the guys are being stupid. They are playing a game stop being so controlling.IT GETS BETTER: Now there is a community for bringing back the original model, bringingbesback. The first post there may be found HERE. For those of you who are curious, a comparison of the two models HERE
