Pern fandom wank (without tentpegs I'm afraid).
I swear, every time I stop by the Kitchen Table there's new wank. It's like if these people don't have something to bitch about they get bored.

A petition is started for "unbanning".

A poll is started on whether banning should be public.

The person banned meanwhile doesn't really care. This is not too suprising as she has an alter ego.

(There will probably be more threads later. It's the KT. Once they have something to argue about, they like to drag discussion about it out for the next three months.)

They are totally going to start a petition to change it from banning to suspension now. Either that, or start another "Who should play Lessa in the movie?!?!?" meme. You know. One or the other.

I'm just saying, though. It's not really much of a ban if people can just wait three months and then start trolling again - or not even that long if they make up a new username, given that the admins apparently can't ban people by IP address.

ahh, pern wank. Though I can't seem to read the second, third, and fourth links-- it says I need to log in. And is it just me, or is every KT wank about things the mods do?

Meanwhile, I'm entertained by some of the links in peoples' signatures... Dark Fort Weyr does some interesting stuff with McCaffrey's insane ideas about sexuality *backs away from RPG slowly*

Every KT wank is indeed about the things the mods do. They have this pattern. They do something. They announce it. People argue. People debate rules changes. For the next three months it's all taken into very serious debate and about seventy different threads. Finally they reach a conclusion on the rules.

And then the mods do something else and we start again!

If anyone could see it by jumping through hoops, you can cap it. If at any point in the approval someone would have to actually approve the registration, you can't.

Or, if it's to circumvent the laziness of everyone here, that's cool. If it's to circumvent an actual security feature, not.

Isn't the Pern fandom rather limited though since Anne McCaffrey is against fanfiction right? I remember one of my geekier ex-roomies telling me of Pern fanfic sites being sent cease-and-desist letters but I guess that's hearsay.

Would roleplay count as fanfic of sorts do you think btw?

And oh yeah, I think for me, I just remember the trilogy and put out of my head the rest. But that ultra-condensation of a plot in Pern is so true.

I'm really weirded out by her emerging airforce essay though. It's a bit too pseudo scientific for me when it's still basically simplifying everything down gender lines. I like how she implies that "Hey, I devised this 30 years ago so give me a break!"

You're right about the fanfic/roleplay thing, but:

1. You can roleplay if your game complies to her rules and is officially approved.

2. Fanfic has been allowed for a little while now due to some legal thing that I think had to do with Anne McCaffrey selling the movie rights? Maybe? I'm not really sure.

IIRC, McCaffrey allowed roleplaying as long as it didn't use canon characters or a few central locations -- in other words, you were allowed to use dragonriders and Weyrs and Holds and all that, but you couldn't use Lessa or Benden Weyr or Ruatha Hold. I also think there were a few other restrictions and stuff. I imagine, since fanfiction was forbidden for the longest time (she allows it, kinda, now if you play by her rules), that the RP clubs were more of a fandom hub than the fanfiction.
