Same Shit, Same Fanboy
I really don't know why Brakus!wank fills me with pure, unadulterated glee. There's just something compelling about a 30-something guy living in his parents' basement and begging for his creative genius to finally be recognized so he can die a happy Otaku.
But anyway...
As a lot of you probably know, AnimeUSA was this past weekend. Over at the AnimeMusicVideos.Org contest forum, there was a post some time ago announcing the finalists for the AMV contest. All goes well with people wishing good luck and cookies, until Brakus steps in on the second page with this fine piece of bait:
I... didn't... make... Finals....
I guess I really do suck as an editor. (cue other "regulars" around here going "that's what we've been trying to tell you" *sigh*)
Realistically, the competition was tough, and it was utterly difficult for me to make finals with these finalists. For such a relatively tiny convention, it gets quality entries. My entries certainly pale in comparison to the finalists'.
I guess there's a small bright side to this.... at least it has freed up some more time to spend elsewhere at the convention. If I'm going at all, that is.
Normally, this type of thing wouldn't cause wank. Unfortunately, we're talking about Brakus, who tends to do this kind of passive-aggressive bitching every time he doesn't make the cut of a contest.
Other forum regulars are predictably unimpressed.
It gets especially wanky when dear Brakus harps upon this point:
Few people that don't make the cut actually go to the convention, in what I've seen here. Those that don't make a big deal about that do so because they probably weren't planning to go in the first place (or they didn't/couldn't submit at all for some reason). I want to hear from at least one person who is still going to Anime USA this year despite entering the AMV contest and not making the cut. I bet you dollars to donuts that I won't hear from anybody else.
So...I guess that means that my trip to AnimeUSA last year despite not making the finals was a bad acid trip? *checks* Nope, my cat's still quite dead, and that $100 co-pay to the Fairfax ER is still in my credit card records. Don't ask.
Because the only reason any AMV creator would go to a con is to see their video played. Dangit, why don't people tell me these things before I blow $400-$500 in a weekend?!
Brakus actually does hear from one poster, Adv1sor, but conveniently ignores him.
Illia Sadri comes back with an awesome bout of verbal ownage, telling him how to have fun at a con despite his dreams being crushed, crushed so hard:
So your vid didn't make it. Enjoy the con. Watch the masqerade, buy shit in the dealer's room, look at cute underage girls in skimpy outfits and see if by chance there's some sort of christian group meeting in the same place that weekend and get a few laughs.
Brakus responds on page 3 with the classic wanker's fallback of "you're interrogating my post from the wrong perspective," which in Brakus-speak translates into something A Simple Plan might post if they ever entered the cutthroat world of AMV contests.
Of all the highlights, though, Dokool is the brightest. And not just with the lovely image macro:
Brakus, do you like making AMVs? Like, seriously, do you enjoy making them?
I have a challenge for you: I dare you to go the next year without submitting any AMVs you make. No Katsucon, no Otakon, no AWA, no AUSA, whatever.
This will accomplish two things:
1. It will determine whether or not you can actually edit for the joy of editing, or if your life is so pathetic that you require the 'validation' that comes from seeing your video on a slightly larger screen with a bunch of people watching.
2. It will get you to shut the hell up on contest threads, because you won't have entered anything. This will make everyone's life better.
If you can't do this, then you might as well just quit now, because you have far greater issues than getting into a stupid contest will solve.
Still going as far as I can tell, though Brakus himself hasn't weighed back in yet. Will probably grow a little bit more before the mods take away the lube.
Oh, and special note to
vafan (aka Brakus): you would do best to 1) not sockpuppet this post and try to defend yourself again, and 2) take Dokool's challenge. For the record, I had planned on attending AUSA this year despite not making the finals. Unfortunately, something called "money" became an issue, and I could not afford it unless I was keen on taking Greyhound and sleeping in a tent, which I wasn't. At least not in Virginia in the middle of November.
