Just because you've disproved my points doesn't make me wrong!
A small Evils Of Disney wank.

Artist Risachantag puts up a card in her series of Kingdom Hearts II playing cards. For some reason, deviantart member Mercenary-Artist sees this as a good excuse to air his rather unique views on the Final Fantasy/Disney crossover.

I recommend reading the full thing, it's quite short, and Mercenary-Artist's firm refusal to listen to just about anything is pretty hysterical. However, for those interested I also provide some highlights.

Risachantag attempts logic, but it doesn't go down that well. Other people also make attempts. Mercenary-Artist tries to cull most of the other arguments by claiming the original conversation was stopped by agreement with the artist in order to not take up space; interesting considering Risachantag's response to the original attempt at getting the last word. This also leads to my personal favorite quote:

"Oh and I stopped this conversation with Risachantag out of curtisy, maybe you should go look up the meaning of that word..."

View also an impressive lack of understanding at the workings of Disney (hint: Touchstone is a division of Disney), and a bonus word origin debate. Small but sweet!

Google tells me the meaning of "curtisy" is "Did you mean: courtesy?"

And wow. There's like a gazillion things in Risachantag's gallery that I've seen uncredited in other places. She's got cute stuff.

Disney dead in Europa? Hmm, I dunno... the Donald Duck comics are still going strong, even if the yearly motion pictures aren't that hyped anymore.

I have not noticed it being dead here, no. We still get the Donald Duck comics, so I'm assuming it's still alive and kicking.

You ain't lyin'. My parents brought my brother back a "Super Picsou Geant" from France, and it was full to the brim with translated Donald Duck action. And that thing was the size of your average Shonen Jump, too.

I was wondering about that. Not only are Donald Duck comics popular, the Disney Princesses franchise is doing quite well too *has seen at least one female student walk around with a Disney Princess umbrella*

And in the Netherlands there's a monthly Daisy Duck magazine aimed more at the girls, and a four-weekly Donald Duck Extra for those who just can't get enough of it. Plus, the Extra mag did the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. Don Rosa <3

wanker's head

because surely Disney was so hard up for cash that they had to go after Final Fantasy - gee, i guess relative popularity in the world of console games has absolutely nothing to do with it, no sirree.

because you can have money without being popular - cf. Bill Gates.

There's so many KH pieces on DA lately, but Risachantag's stuff has always been good ^_^ As for Mercenary-Artist...

I just said I'm tired of seeing Kingdom Hearts stuff, all it is is Disney trying to get a chunk of the anime market.

Hope he hasn't heard about Spectrobes then; he'd probably have a heart attack.

My point is why would Square-Enix go out of its way to make a game with Disney characters?

Because Testuya Nomura, who came up with the idea for KH likes Disney. In fact he has stated that The Lion King is his favorite Disney movie.

Why exactly is Disney the ultimate evil anyway? I love Disney just as much as I love Square-Enix why is that a crime to some people (Totally hoping Emperors New Groove will some how be in KHIII). Also why does Mercenary-Artist not seem to realize that SE is also a large corporation out to make money too?

His little misspelling reminds me of a story Miss Manners mentioned in a column of hers once:

The U.S. State Department tried to get around the uncomfortably undemocratic implications of curtsying (American men traditionally do not bow on account of it being a subservient gesture, ergo American women should not curtsy, seeing as that's the female equivalent - the proper gesture for both genders is the handshake) by claiming that "curtsy" is just another word for "courtesy" and thus curtsying to someone is just being good-mannered. As she pointed out, it's the history of the gesture that matters, not the word we use for it.

There's no point to sharing that, I just find that an entertaining little tidbit.

...been going downhill since Walt died?

Did we fail to notice the huge boom in the late-80s-90s when Disney put out several excellent films in a row, that Disney theme parks are packed (well, not in China, apparently), that the Disney-Pixar films are ridiculously popular, that while animated stuff's been not so hot lately, there were a few gems (Lilo & Stitch, for one), and THEY OWN HALF OF HOLLYWOOD.

You know, my initial response to this was "What a stupid cunt," but then I thought to myself, "Mali, you are part of the 99.9% of KH fandom that effectively pretends that the Disney half of the cast doesn't exist. What are you bitching about?" But that doesn't change the fact that this guy is a stupid cunt.

On a related note, I find Final Fantasy to be a series of overrated tripe that barely qualify as games, and the only Disney movie I really love is the Emperor's New Groove. But apparently you can put the two franchises together in a really rather mediocre video game and I will find myself seriously considering getting Axel tattoos on my fucking face. Go figure that one out.
