TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO WANK.

In the HP fandom, there's a lady named [info]handful. We all know her here - yes, on FW - as [info]figgy. She has cute disney animated icons. I know, I know, who doesn't?

Turns out Figgy has been lying for years about having a PHD. And about a lot of things, really.

And her friends are pissed as hell.

Currently, Handful has deleted her LJ, leaving behind this post, courtesy [info]lheena.

So, I can see why anyone who has met her in real life and been taken to faux-workplaces and had plans cancelled because of the faux-masters would be really pissed about this because yeah, that's just bizarre on about ten-thousand levels. But I can't say that as someone who was merely on her flist and who had never been taken for a ride in the PhD Volkswagen of Doom that I feel OMG BETRAYED by her lying about her education . I just feel sort of "Okay, whatever" about the whole thing. o_O

Although, being unemployed myself right now, I do wonder why it hasn't occurred to me to lie about having some super awesome job that I'm obviously not qualified for. Oh right, that's because I'm ridiculously honest.

I actually do have a PhD - in literature - and I do data entry for a living. I have to leave my doctorate off my resumé because it spooks employers for the semi-skilled clerical positions that are all that's available. The local universities are laying off most of their existing humanities staff, let alone hiring any more.

Perhaps figgy can rest happy that that would have been her fate too if she'd actually bothered finishing and she can feel better about saving the money, time and effort.

I remember when Figgy first joined an RPG I was in... someone told me "Figgy's a child progidy, you know. She got her PhD when she was 22."

I was like.. "whoa, I'm going to feel so stupid when I talk to her. She's going to intimidate the pants offa me!"

And then I talked to Figgy. And then I saw how much Figgy RPed. And then I realized... there's no god damn way she has a PhD.

Too much free time, not enough horror stories, and... pretty damn stupid, also.
