It has been a long time since the "Men are oppressed and it's all women's fault" wank-monster has raised it's ugly head, and here's a gem. On the one hand, I'd love to see more female leads in games. But on the other hand, female leads tend to end up as TnA with guns. So whatever wins in this poll...my ideal loses. Perfectly innocent, right? It's completely par for the course at I fail to see how TnA with guns is any worse than musclebound, shirtless guys with guns. =P Oh I'm sorry, I forgot how oppressed men are. To which Next Protip: bias is not oppression. Then iwanttobeasleep responds with: Not that I care (it's a business and it's the parent's job to teach their kids about how you treat women), but I'm going to guess it's that: TnA is for sex appeal and objectifies women (not to mention the unrealistic representations, at least most men can manage musclebound with enough work), while musclebound, shirtless guys are so men can get a vicarious thrill from playing as someone very manly. When it comes to the video game industry, there's not really a double standard because there aren't enough girls in it for them to design their models to appeal to us. And. . .men are just as responsible for their unrealistic/demeaning standards as women are, just think of all the insults a not-masculine man gets from other men ("girly", "pussy", "fag", "gay" all just for not being musclebound). Not to mention, it's kind of like minority racists. Sure, on an individual basis they're just as bad as a white racist, but since they were very oppressed, and are still discrimated against, it's hardly the same thing. Post a comment in response: |
