Titles are Too Spoilers! And I Know So Because I'm Having a Bad Day!
cupati is having a bad day. It is, therefore, her God-given right to bitch about spoilers in the torch_wood community. Again.

Must be Tuesday.

Ha! Normally I'd think it's a bit much, thinking an episode title is a spoiler. But this week when I saw "They Keep Killing Suzie" in an LJ post, my first thought was WTF? Spoiler, hello! Then I realized it was the episode title and laughed.

She's got a mild sort of point. One episode of Energon was titled "The Return of Demolishor." This was only spoilery because Demolishor had died in the previous episode and I wanted to be all sad for it and then happy-surprised.

But that's Cartoon Network's fault.

I have to say, knowing the title didn't make the episode any less entertaining for me. I still didn't know the who or the when or the why, you know? It's not like seeing "Suzie" in the title immediately transferred the entire episode into my brain.

...though that'd be cool.

Including where the guy said he actually put his hand over the titles that appeared on the screen, for fear of being spoiled.

I suppose it doesn't occur to cupati that sometimes tv series creators name their episodes in that manner ON PURPOSE in order to ramp up the anticipation in their viewership, either on the established shows like CSI where they know a substantial minority are into spoilers (they don't announce titles except in the listings and on the dvd sets), or on shows where they place the title of the episode after/before the credits (I don't know if Torchwood does this or not, however).

I couldn't quite tell if this person was bitching because she looked at titles of spoiler threads (uh, hello?!), or if they were angry at the series creators for naming them spoilery in the first place. The wank is quite delightful, however, in that 'you should have known people were going to react badly but you're still a sensitive little whiner' kind of way. Thanks for the report ^^.

ps. I REALLY wish this had gone on during the last of the LOTR films' release. RETURN OF THE KING, anyone? Bahahha. Yes, I know it's a book, but there's more media coverage when there's a current release out, and thus crybabies whiners like cupati might have taken umbrage.

Hah, I was going to write this up, but was too lazy.

My favourite part is when cupati takes offence to Every. Single. Thing. people say. Like, goes on and on even when people are just replying to other people's comments. It's a supernova of self-importance.

I avoid spoilers myself, but this? Bitch, please.

I always do. I take things wrongly, don't think out my responses, and wonder why it's all going the wrong way. Sorry to bother you.

Wow, that's just-- Internet communities are probably not the right place for her, then.

D'awww, my little comm's growing up! Seriously, if she has this community friended, she's one dedicated little steam engine; there are so many posts, my friendslist gave little feeble cries for help.

If she DOESN'T have the community friended, then she doesn't read it until she sees the episode. Really simple. That's what I do, at any rate, but maybe that's a higher level of logic than most Internet users function on.

Goddammit, spoiler wank always makes me angry. It's never about big important spoilers that actually ruin something, it's always about fucking titles of episodes or promo pictures of costumes.

I definitely remember someone threatening to defriend people if they made icons out of promo pictures from ROTK, because knowing what the outfits looked like was spoilers.

Is dumb cow-like surprise the *only* form of enjoyment these people get out of movies/tv shows?
