Wanky, wanky night.
A prerendered Halo 3 teaser trailer was broadcast recently on ESPN, and posted on Joystiq.

You know where this is going.

The comments, naturally, explode. Apparently, since Microsoft can get away with showing pre-rendered footage and Sony can't(the fake Killzone 2 trailer* at last years E3, which Sony later claimed to be a 'target render'), the fans must be prejudismised against Sony. Also, rasist[sic]. You are interrogating this trailer from the wrong perspective! Me, I just like that someone is asking the big questions.

*I think all video sporkings should be done by static macros of owls from now on.

From here:

we are all gamers. we should be proud and unified, and stop fighting one another (unless it's competitive online matches). who cares if someone likes or hates your favorite gaming machine(s). all that ultimately matters is what *YOU* enjoy. and stop hating on others that don't share those views. sheesh.

This guy has either been a gamer for too long, or not long enough.

If you replace "gaming machines" with "ships", I do believe most wanks 'round the Net would either rise up together in disagreement or wish they had something witty to say other than "Yeah, well, your mom."

Sometimes I like reading Joystiq comments because you'll occasionally stumble upon one by a person who seems to be new to the Console Wars (or rather, bitching about the Console Wars on the internet). Whether or not they're taking sides, to a seasoned gamer, such comments are just so cute ^_^

What that thread should be debating is whether or not this game will have an actual ending. [/WENT THERE]

Not only did this make me almost get soda to go out my nose, it makes me think of MXC, the awesomely bad dubbed Spike TV show.....now wouldn't Guy LeDouche have fun with that one?

I found the comments debating which vg series is more popular by using sales hilarious. I wonder if they remember that Halo has only been around since the launch of the XBox. Mario, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear have all been around since the NES days. Gives them quite a leg up on ol' Halo in the number of games sold category.

The commercial itself, while making me anxious for Halo 3, has me longing for a commercial for Mass Effect. I have to wonder why they were motivated to start airing this commercial now when the game won't be out until next November at the earliest.

You really like Joystiq wank, don't you?

Well, I guess you can explain to me the difference between pre-rendered footage and gameplay? I'm guessing that pre-rendered footage is computer animation based loosely on the gameplay, and that cut-scenes don't count as one.

Close enough.

Pre-renedered are generally CGI sequences not made by the game engine. Since the processor isn't busy doing other things (like it is during the game itself) pre-rendered material tends to be of much higher quality than stuff rendered using the game engine.

Oh, and cut-scenes can either be pre-rendered (as in the case of major story sequences in games like the Final Fantasy series) or rendered with the in-game engine. Dirge of Cerebus (FFVII-spin off) and FFXII you can really see the difference between the two.

Whenever I see gamer wank, all I can think is, "I can't wait till Spore comes out... I can't wait till Spore comes out!"

Ad infinitum.
