Fanficrants is indeed at it again. With that age-old question: What are your thoughts on yaoi? Why the hell do people write slash, anyway?

The essay contains a lot of "we"s, so FFR slashers tht indeed do not agree with the essay get a little... upfront.

I'm beginning to think any kind of post/essay trying to analyze the reasons why people have a certain fandom preference (shipping, slash, het, etc.) is inherently wanky in and of itself. Maybe more so than people outright saying stuff like "X is better b/c blah blah" b/c there's something vaguely passive-aggressive about it.

Nice essay! Yes, the paragraphs were a bit long, and it would have been nice to hear of your personal views on slash, but other than that, it was a pretty good read. I haven't been in the fandom scene that long (a little over a year), but I'll admit I'm still puzzled (and honestly, at times somewhat disgusted) by the slash phenomenon (Not that I mean others can't do it). I give props to you for posting your ideas on why it's occuring, and in such a broad sweep over so many different mediums - perhaps at some point I'll have to post my own thoughts. Good job!

I really have no words.

But what about those of us who write slash, het, and gen, often with the exact same character(s)? Do we not exist? Are we fandom's bisexuals?

The general age group of slashers, ranging in my own experience from around 14 up til around the mid to late 20s is certainly fitting with the general age group of young people and teenagers going through puberty and other hormonal and mental changes

*eyes the original Trek slashers, S&H slashers, and half the people on my friends list and Yahoo groups* Sure, 14 to late 20s, okay.

This poster seems to have issues with her own: sex organs and sexuality, age, willingness to write slash, willingness to write RPS, just for starters.

The same Tall Poppy Syndrome-esque habit of cutting down our fellow females at any possible moment can also be observed in the animal kingdom, for example among meerkats, and lionesses.

You know... I don't think meerkats, and lionesses are a very good example of some fangirl's views of female characters. I think hyenas would be a better example, you know with the whole sister slaughtering sister thing.
