But I Am Le Tired...
Something Positive, everyone's favourite webcomic featuring boneless, extra-huggable kitties, looks to be shaping up for a nasty surprise. The main character, Davan, is heading home, and his roommate PeeJee expresses a niggling sense of impending doom. The title of today's (well...as close to today as the author can get) comic is entitled "PeeJee as Cassandra", adding another level of uh-oh to the proceedings.

You'd think the members of the LJ feed would be able to keep wank to the plot, no?

...Well...

The very first comment, as well as including a lovely "first" line, asks simply, "Who's Cassandra?" Other comm members feel the need to deliver some thwappage. OP snarks "Well, what do you know, I happen to have fifteen [Greek mythology books] right behind me. I understand the concept of Cassandra the frustrated oracle, lets please keep in mind that Cassandra is a more contemporary name than Agamemmnon, and is not simply assumed to be a reference to the fall of Troy.

If that's all right with you."

Commenters call asshole. OP is quiet yet, but I don't doubt zhe'll be unable to handle such stinging insults in quiet...

If it weren't the S*P feed, I might think that. But they can wank about anything.

Not quite impressively as the no-longer-official community, granted. But still with impressive vigor.

When I was in my "dragons n fairies r real ok" phase, I had a muse named Cassandra. I'd have completely forgotten about her, except that since then, every story I write has some utterly fictional event in it that later comes true. D:

*only mentioning because someone beat her to posting and thus, she can't make a post saying "First! Who's Cassandra? lol"*

Well, to be fair, I don't follow the comic thing, but the first thing I hear when Cassandra's mentioned is Cassie Claire.

I've followed S*P since before the chemo-kitty's debut. I also know quite a lot of the mythos and legends of ancient Greece.

My first thought was Cassie Claire too. And I laughed so hard at the thought of what R was gonna do to her in one of his strips. CassieClaire/Choo-Choo Bear OMG OTP!

This was the webcomic that had to ban any and all use of the word "Furry" because no one could see that word without becoming a raging imbecile.

So no, not really.

Well, geez, I didn't know not knowing enough about classical Greek mythology was a hanging offense. I didn't know what the name was in reference to either, and I wouldn't have known where to look if I wanted to know, so if I were curious I would have simply asked. I would have asked AFTER making some comment on the comic itself, but I would have asked, and I would have been rather offended if somebody came back with, "DAHLING, don't be such a stupid idiotic moron about Greek mythology" or somesuch. The OP is right to be pissed.

See, I didn't know who she was either. But I just read the comic and went "Mmmkay, what's getting dumped on Davan now?" and then went on my merry internet way. *goes to see if Goblins has been updated*

Having 15 books on Greek Mythology and not getting it is problematic.

Claiming to have 15 books on Greek Mythology, as an appeal to authority, is wanky.

Part of me agrees with the "how can you not fucking know who Cassandra is, go read a real book, dammit!" reaction but that's because a) the Iliad has been my favourite book since I was seven and b) I grew up in Italy, where a classical education is the norm.

It still boggles my mind, now that I live in the states, that there often appears to be this huge hole in what I perceive to be basic common knowledge.

It boggles my mind that so many people out there apparently think that there has been exactly one person in the history of human experience named Cassandra.

Bug maybe it's because I grew up in a place where being well-rounded is the norm.

Also, you don't need 15 books. Edith Hamilton's Mythology is all anybody needs. *snuggles it*
