Ahh Torchwood and Dr. Who... how you tease me so.
So over on ol' El Jay, in the usually amusing [info]torch_wood, [info]kastawayking posts about her annoyance with the next to last episode of Torchwood for season 1 (Or episode 1x12 which featured Jack and Jack snogging. It was very, very pretty). Namely her annoyance with the "Bad Wolf" reference.

Then [info]aibhinn mentions the possibility of Rose coming back via the Rift.

And we're off! Enter Doctor/Rose shipper [info]i_bring_u_fire saying that of course they will bring Rose back!

Then [info]kiss_me_quick saying that "Rose was no more important than any other Doctor Who companion."

And then we get into a long thread of "Is too!" "Is not!"

However, enter [info]ryttu3k. Who explains that if Rose/Doctor is canon as asserted by [info]i_bring_u_fire, then so is every Doctor/Companion pair ever

And there was fun had by all!

You know what's making me laugh most of all? [info]i_bring_u_fire is currently the mod of a new Martha comm. And she's whining about Doctor/Martha shippers. In a Martha and Doctor comm. Which she is mod of.

You'd think that they'd be done now that the shows are over for a bit and no new spoilers have come out for the next series for some time. *headdesks*

I am pleased that I'm not the only who's annoyed with people who go 'OMG Rose was the Bad Wolf who scattered the words through time and space!'

My take on it is If the Doctor loved any of his companions, it was probably Ace, but Seven had other things on his mind. Getting into a relationship was not high on his list of priorities.

Romana comes a close second, she was the only other Time Lord he ever got close to outside of Susan. Who, being family, doesn't count.

In the case of Sarah Jane . . . eh. It was more on her side than his. Oh, he cared about her, he cares about all of them, but S.J. wasn't all that special.

As for Tegan, she always struck me as a straight shooter. She wasn't afraid to tell the Doctor what she thought, even if he didn't want to hear. Theirs is more of a friendship. I could easily see the Doctor coming back to Earth to talk to her when ever he needed some advice over the years. She probably held his hand after Gallifrey was destroyed and talked him into continuing. But she never travels in the TARDIS, no matter how often he asks.

And where was there wank? I see a lot of, "I think Rose is really special :)" and "I don't, but okay :)" and everything's all sunshine and puppies. [info]i_bring_u_fire certainly sounds like a naive shipper, but everyone's being... well, nice.

Also, I thought Torchwood was about pretty gay Welsh people? But it's a Who tie-in? Dr. Who fandom so intimidatingly massive :(

Isn't it possible, just possible, to be a Doctor/Rose 'shipper without denying the Doctor loved his former companions just as much, if in different ways? To believe that Nine and Rose had the Hawt SeXX0rS between episodes (adding Jack, as necessary) and that Ten's oral fixation gets the better of him, much to Rose's delight, without ignoring the bonds former Doctors shared with former companions? Seriously, people! Or am I just with the strange Earth logic again?

That being said, I'd love a Doctor/Rose/Jack reunion, if only for a couple of episodes. Those three were magic.

OK, I admit that I'm new to the whole Who thing (new as in I grew up watching the series on ABC and having nightmares about it), watched the telemovie and hated it, came late to Nine, Ten and Torchwood and fucking LOVE them, but even taking all that into account...

Yup. There are good cases to be made for the Doctor having a relationship with any one of about a dozen companions including Jamie, Adric, Turlough and for those of a heterosexual bent Jo, Sarah Jane, Tegan, Romana, etc. etc. etc. I've also seen convincing Doctor/Brigadier and Doctor/Master slash, and I personally treasure the highly amusing Two/Three scenario.

A companion is a companion is a companion ... they stick around for a while, have adventures, then go their own way. Rose isn't any more important than anyone else, nor is Jack, nor is the next guy or girl who wanders into the Doctor's life; he's not pining for a single one of them, I guarantee it.
