We French people know how to wank too, you know
Superfrenchie.com is a blog written in English devoted to Franco-American relations. It's run by a French expat in the US, and French people and Americans alike hang out there.
One of the main pet-peeves (and provider of wank) over there is French-bashing: do Americans hate the French or do the French hate the Americans more? Is Bill O'Reilly more offensive than les Guignols de l'Info? Should Cafépress get sued? You name it, they wank about it...They even participated in a campaign to give Jay Leno some history books about France because they were fed up with his lame jokes about the French.
But now that Captain America is dead, they are getting bolder, so they've moved on to speaking out against the crimes commited by American comic book writers. And not just any crime: crimes against history, against geography (I kid you not) and against language.
The post itself is pretty tl;dr. Most people in the comments tell the OP that he should chill out. People ramble about Lady Oscar, and get confused over whether or not stereotypes are the same thing as bashing. According to the OP, they, like totally are!!!!1!!

I’ll answer: I don’t think that relying on clichés, or poor or non-existant research, is french-bashing. I do think that it shows some kind of laziness on the part of american writers and artists. I do understand the need for them to work quickly in order to respect the monthly deadline (although, when you see the erratic schedule of, say, the latest Wonder Woman series, it seems that it’s not really the norm anymore), but still, there are some things that don’t take that much time, like going to a local high school and ask a french teacher to translate a bit of dialogue, for example. It seems to me that, rather than doing their own research, many artists have simply relied on what other artists had drawn before, without realizing that those artists had themselves relied on what others had drawn, and so on since the 1940s. Which is why comic book France looks like something from the fifties, or even before, when french politicians wore waxed mustaches, people wore berets, and cops wore kepis. A France that certainly isn’t the one I’ve lived in for 47 years now. Now, my next guest post will be more serious. Watch this space on march 16th. The date itself should give you an idea of what I will be talking about.

Posted in [info]fandom_wank, because the OP is clearly wanking, and if you can wank about the position of the Eiffel Tower in the background of a comic book, you're definitely a fan.

Bring pencils and paper because there will be splooge a quiz.

The only French in comic books that I care about is when Gambit starts in with his Cajun French hotness. ♥♥♥

Gosh, really? You think so? That would be so par for the course in every kind of literature ever unforgivable!

(And of course, there's question of following canonically established mistakes because they're canonical and to contradict them would be to contradict... Aw, never mind. Not worth it. I was going to ask how many French comic books get D.C. geography right, but then I thought, "Hey, wait, I can't think of any internationally popular French comic books." Of course, I'm not a comics person. Maybe there are dozens, and they all have all their maps precisely in sync with reality for the multiple issue arcs that they set in the States.)

"As the Crusades reached their height, a band of adventurers in France banded together as The Three Musketeers to thwart the machinations of the evil Cardinal Richelieu”. I let you digest this phrase, and its implication. Suffice it to say that the last Crusade was fought (very briefly), in 1270, and that Richelieu (who was not really that evil) and the Three Musketeers (who were soldiers, not adventurers) lived in the 17th century.

Okay, "ignorant" and "clueless" don't even come close to describing that kind of a mistake. Need a new word.

I don't get why you would bash the French. The Revolutionary War only worked because they came over and bailed us out. Admittedly they did so mostly to piss of the British, but most of what the French do is partially aimed at pissing off the British and vice versa.

Britan vs. France is much more fun than fifty million reiterations of 'lol teh french surrendermonkeys.' Why make up history when the facts are so damn amusing all by themselves?
