Christian Review Wank
I stumbled across this during my monthly trawl of checking up on the fundamentalists.

Young People Express Their Opinions over Oz

Then there's this: 7th Heaven which is supposed to be about some minister and his family.

These people worry me.

Then there's this: 7th Heaven which is supposed to be about some minister and his family.

I don't know if those comments would be considered fundamentalist. While I haven't seen the show, the biggest concern I saw displayed is that people feel this isn't an accurate portrayal of what a true minister of the Lord is like.

Nothing too wanky about that, if that's the case. I mean, would you take exception to a show that showed a group or organization you belong to being misrepresented? Especially if it's a bandwagon for it be misrepresented? It's a bit like the early Hollywood portrayal of African-Americans. Insulting to the actual people.

The comments I did read -- I didn't read all, skimmed some, read others, probably about half in all -- seemed to be fairly calm, expressing a concern about a false portrayal. If what one commenter I saw is speaking the truth, that this so-called minister never once in the show refers to the word of God for advice, then yeah, I'd have to agree with that.

I think we just wanked within a few minutes of each other.

We must be tuned in to the uber-snark or something.

Anyway, that site is definitely teh funny. ^_^ It's like capalert.org with tv shows thrown in for amusement value!

Oh they've got some great reviews over movies. I just find it hilarious how they impose their own values on shows and act like people should avoid them because they will corrupt you unless you are pure in your faith!!!

I just find imposing religious beliefs on every aspect of life fairly wanky and terrifying.

I can't say I can see the wank in this one. I mean, it is kind of amusing and all... but is it true wank?

It's the filtering of popular fandoms through the christian moral sieve i find irritating and grating more than anything else. And not just christianity but obsessive analysis from any religious point of view disturbs me

I like their review of Evangelion, in which they seriously ponder the use of Christian imagery in the show without realizing that 99% of the time, when anime includes Christian aspects, it's because the creators think that "those wacky Western religions are TEH FUNY!" Hee. This site is fun.

But then again you can't have something written about the occult and have it be lighthearted because it's the tool of satan. er... or something.

Actually, the explanation of it I heard was that the Japanese don't necessarily include the Christian symbolism because they find it funny or are mocking it, but because to them Christianity is roughly the equivalent of Wicca to us.
Thus, Naru's wearing a cross is about the same as some girl in a comic here wearing a pentagram. It COULD be a representation of faith, but is just as likely to be something she bought because it "looks cool".

Skimming through some of the other reviews from the first page, I think the funniest comment was about how Satan was apparently writing all the TV shows these days. Hee.

And the comment about "what is the rush to have an episode coming to the defense of a Muslim girl?" from the 7th Heaven reviews page? Well gee, perhaps it's because of people like you, who don't seem to grasp that the actions of a few wackos are representative of the general population? Cause by that logic, I ought to have a deep hatred for *all* you Americans out there, and not just your President Asshat. Bah!

so if these shows are so satanic how come you bothered watching them to review them in that much detail?

crimes seem to be selected as stereotypes from the litany of disgusting offences we read about every day in the newspapers; drunk-driving resulting in death, cannibalism, armed robbery, gang killings, infanticide, etc.

If drunk driving resulting in cannibalism is something you read about every day in the newspaper, you may possibly be living in the wrong town. Just a thought.

Ah, yes, it's not enough for something to be Christian... it has to be SUPER-CHRISTIANJIN LEVEL FOUR!!! Because since these people can't open their mouth without telling everyone exactly what God thinks of the issue, obviously everyone else should too. (Except that then, of course, they'd be angry at anyone else presuming to know more about God's opinion on the subject than THEY do.)
*splurt*

Gah! I don't even have to read them to know what sort of stuff they say. I mean, I'm a Christian (not a very good one, obviously, or I wouldn't be here. Heee!) and I get sick of all the people at church denouncing one thing or another, because they think the masses can't separate fantasy from reality. (Hey, I love fantasy books, but I have no desire or inclination to get involved in Wicca/Occult/Magick/whatever.)

But I also can see the point of having review websites like this, so that parents who want to check out the shows their kids are watching don't have to sit through five minute segments of annoying songs punctuated by 15 minutes of sugary cereal ads.

You know what I really want to see? A Muslim or Buddist site like this.

My personal favorite, this review of "Monty Python's Flying Circus:

This is the most morally bankrupt piece of trash I have ever seen. Full of blasphemy, sick violence and levels of profanity and nudity that would be unacceptable on network TV in America (which itself contains too much), no decent Christian should go near this trash, and the fact that it is regarded as 'classic' shows how this country needs firmer Christian values.
