Itty-bitty Fire Emblem wank
The Fire Emblem series, for those who haven't played it, has this neat little thing called a support system where you can set characters up with one another to gain stat bonuses in levels. Supports also often result in romantic pairings... whether they be gen, straight, yaoi, yuri, and yes, even incest.

A fan translates a conversation between two characters in the newest game, Goddess of Dawn.

Overall, things are pretty civil. Lots of 'that's nice / no thanks' but you have dicey little bits of racism, what constitutes being homophobic, 'OMG they're going to RAPE this in the English version!!', and one brave person trying to save the kittens in the world.

// Shame on Nintendo for giving little fat girls with no life more ammo to shot textual gayfests.//

Oh, shame on them for realizing that those little fat girls actually have some *money* (because lots of Japanese yaoi fangirls are actually over 18 and with an income more-or-less of their own) and they can get it from them by inserting TeH Ghei you nahte so much! Because everyone knows girls shouldn't be allowed near to a videogame!

Bitch, PLEASE. I ship yaoi, yuri AND het as much as I want and with whoever I want. *ships Eliwood with both Ninian *and* Hector and whores Lyn out to Kent, Rath *and* Florina, kthx. * <3

So anybody can make their own favorite pairing happen? That's awesome, I wish more games did that. FFVIII would have been much, much better if Squall had dumped Rinoa and got it on with Seifer

I was going to say "with such a feature, there can't be flamewars over pairings, since everybody can get whatever pairing they want". Shows how naive I am.

I was going to argue with you and say Squall/Quistis but I don't think I'd want to inflict so much emo on my favorite hot blonde.

So ... Quistis/Irvine to go along with Squall/Seifer, says I!

/off topic slashiness

I used to think that about pairing wars in FE too but... someone, somewhere's gonna be upset. ;)

You can't set anyone up with anyone, but yeah, each character has quite a few other possible love/romantic/friend/etc. interests. Look up any Fire Emblem game on Gamefaqs and there should be some support conversation faqs you can read.

ANYONE would have been better with Squall than Rinoa methinks. Or lots of someones. *is all for FF-main-character-piles*

You might want to check out the 'Star Ocean' games.

In those you can pair up the lead character with any other character you want provided you get said character and make the right choices during the game.

I'm sorry, was I only imagining the sexual tension between Ike and Soren in Path of Radience? Because Soren was so gay for Ike.

lol at people going "This is going to be RAPED!!!1". Localization tries its best to keep it to the original text, I find. >_>;a

If you were imagining it, I was too. Along with the whole 'dear Gods someone please pleaseplease show more images of Zihark' thought that kept running around in my brain.

I believe it was during that cut scene where you get the Hammerne when my daughter (who was around 8 or 9 at the time) turned to me on the couch and said, as if this was the final overwhelming moment that threw it over the edge for her, "I think Soren likes Ike, Mommy. I mean, like likes him."

Now, granted, she grew up watching Card Captor Sakura ("Mommy, I know why Li-kun's so mad that Yukito-san got Sakura a hair thingie and not him. It's 'cause Li-kun wants one, too.") and once made an Animal Crossing character named Link that was a girl (so he could have a pointy green hat, obviously) but still.

Okay, I am sitting on my hands and resolutely ignoring the thoughts on yaoi, but:

(in a comment about name changes in anime) "Hirohito Honda" would normally be fine, except there's a car company here named "Honda" and lawsuits must be avoided

I must have missed the part where Honda sued Tokyopop for not changing Tohru's family name to Smith. (And quite aside from that, Honda's a Japanese car company to begin with, not an American one.)

And isn't Honda an actual Japanese family name in any case?

Yup. Just like there's no one named 'Ford' in the US because it would be a copyright violation. And ever since Little Debbie hostess cakes came out - all Deborah's are rounded up and placed in camps.

Ike is stablished in FE9 as a very, VERY manly character.

oh well if he's VERY manly, he can't be gay.

The thing is, that same support pretty much happened in FE9.

Of course, Soren said, "You're my only friend, Ike," in FE9-- but we all know what that means.

I demand supports of the knights and their horses!

Finally, someone else who didn't like Locke/Celes! I like them as characters, and could see how they might get together in the future, but they had very little interaction in the game, especially considering he's optional in the WoR.

I wanted to comment on the wank...

Unfortunately I forgot what to write since I got distracted by my fire emblem games, where my male characters currently are busy being manly at each other(especially at night, in the dark, without clothes, all over each other), while my female characters enjoy romantic meetings in secluded places and HLS afterwards.

...Seriously, people still whine about t3h ghey in Fire Emblem? They must be new. *still happily waving the Lyn x Florina flag*
