E!News, more powerful than Nielsen...

How desperate is the Veronica Mars fandom to save their show? A bit.

Believing that the E! Entertainment Network has the power to save a show, some fans have created a special web page to teach other fans step-by-step, how to cheat the E! poll.

From the site:

Before we begin, let's do a mental check:
  • Are you going to vote for Veronica Mars and ONLY Veronica Mars using this method?
  • Are you sure you want to start down a slippery ethical slope that involves cheating the system?
  • Are you sure your conscience will allow you to get away with participating in such devious matters?
If you answered yes to all three questions, congratulations! You are a true fan willing to save the show by any means necessary...

Yes. Let's do a mental check. That would be fabulous. :)

And remember kids, do not post this on any other site! Unless it's to point and laugh. Because then it's hilarious.

In case of site deletion.

Edit: And we have site deletion.

Now, lest you think this silly little poll doesn't really make a difference, let me remind you that our Save One Show campaign has a solid track record, having successfully rescued five out of six winning shows.

A solid track record with 5/6 shows (and here I thought solid would mean, oh say, 6/6)! Everyone should keep up that desperate cheating 'cause God knows E!News will be the one to get the show saved!

Bwahahahaha! I shall now use this to vote for Teal'c as best character in every stargate poll I find!

Seriously though, if these guys are sitting here doing this to cheat the system, don't they think the people who have created this e!poll thingie already know about this macro? Dur.

Things like this hurt my brain because they are so silly.

I always thought that if a show is cancelled or an actor is said to be written off the show/killed off...usually that is a decision that is already finalized and the show already cancelled or the character played by the actor has already had their last show filmed?

That's why I understand the heart and soul behind the campaigns to save a show/actor but also know that fans are wasting their time a bit in the "whole campaigning. It shows the producer/writers that the decision is unpopular with a section of fandom/viewers but rarely does it change the action itself.

At least that is what I have observed.

I have to laugh at the "super secret" way to cheat on the vote page. How super secret" is it if it is alreayd reported on Fandom Wank?

Gilmore Girls 38%
Veronica Mars 33%
One Tree Hill 17%
Supernatural 7%
Most of the others 0%

This suggests that either GG and VM had overwhelming support or else GG and VM had 1337 haxx0rs working for them and nobody else did.

As for me, I have no interest in the ability of E! to save shows. But I do wonder whether this poll is in any way a reliable or scientific poll. Because we know that polls on the internet are the only 100% reliable measure of public opinion.

I'm guessing I'll be in the minority and I'm also a Supernatural fan, who manually did votes and also 'cheated' by disabling cookies to put in several votes per day, but I kinda have some... respect for the fans who initially came up with such a devious [and effective] way of voting. {g}

Honor? C'mon, this was more a case of fans versus fans, and the 'winning' faction getting some pimping action (I'm all for the SPN pimp mobile). Personally, I have confidence in SPN's renewal, unless the CW network can whip out an impressive line-up of new series fans will flock to... but AFAIK, WB/UPN/CW haven't managed to achieve that in 2-3 years.

Dina
