Todd Goliath ripped off artwork? Well color me shocked (only not)
So this little ditty began in a Gallery where the popular artist Todd Goldman showed a cute picture that is like most of his other pictures (google David and Goliath merchandise. I'm sure you've seen it somewhere).

Turns out he ripped it off from a webcomic artist named Shmorky. Weird, huh? An extensive map out of this ripoff can be read here.

Queue fans getting upset, bashing Goldman etc. Many webcomic artists rise to the occasion to defend Shmorky. The thread there has some funny lines and some bashing of comedians like Carlos Mencia and Dane Cook (as they apperantly rip off others as well.) But generally that thread is tame.

Then some after some surfing I find this gem in a digg.com thread.

FyreDank starts things off by saying "SA steals art all the time. Ever heard of Photoshop Phriday?"

And people fight back. Obviously.

Like: Taking an image and editing it is stealing art? It's not like they claimed they made the original image. Get your head out of your ass before you comment.

And then FyreDank replies.

You dumb motherfucker. I'm not saying the original artists of photoshop phriday are theifs. Lowtax is a thief because he takes art from the forums, puts his watermark on them, posts them on the front page, and gets paid for it. Without the orginal artists' consent or knowledge.

And people decide to give him a peice of their mind. All this about photoshop phriday. Entire wank can be read here Some of the comments have to be opened.

You know, you're right Fyredank. Any rights Shmorky has over his artwork should be thrown away because people willingly submit photoshops to the website something awful dot com.

Makes sense this guy acts like this. FyreDank means faggot in dutch.

What amuses me is that this really doesn't even have to do with the original problem. Regardless it should be noted that Photoshop Phriday is something that Shmorky does on his forums which is why it was mentioned. However judging by people's outrage and anger I'm sure there will be more wank to follow.

This thread is far more votile then the actual forum. Slightly ironic, huh?

Also, throughout the thread the people who are calling it out against Todd are pretty hostile too. No one is fighting on Todd's behalf anywhere else but it doesn't mean the comment's aren't amusing to read.

ETA: Thanks to a mousie in the thread this was also dug up and apperantly in retaliation to Shmorky, Todd Goldman tried to get him known as a pedophile which backfired beautifully when he was banned for posting 'pornographic' content on myspace. This info is thanks to go_shirly

Also, webcomics are rising up to declare their voices! R*K Milholland of Something*Positive posted a rather scathing denouncement on his front page, Scott Kurtz of PvP and Pascalle of Zap! did as well. I've no doubt in my mind there are others but you get the idea. Apperantly this just keeps on giving with perhaps the promise of real!lawyers rather then internet!lawyers, or maybe even both.
