Life on Mars is Serious Biznis
Over at a Life On Mars lj com, [info]tzikeh and [info]excathedra1895 have a kerfuffle about whether remakes are any good. Are Yankees sapping the poor Brit's imagination? Can Brits even understand US shows? It doesn't really matter, as the situation rapidly escalates to personal attacks and then...BAHLETION! [info]tzikeh proudly posts that she has driven [info]ecxathedra1895 from teh intarwebs.

Coupling took the format and character of Friends and then used some brilliant plotwork and lots of sex and Jeff-addled lunacy to make it a hundred times better. What's not to get?

Also, it didn't have that hypersensitive control-freak twat Ross in it.

The melodramatic footstomping and journal deleting may have been immature, but so is crowing 'victory is mine' and dancing all in the wake of it. To be honest given the posts linked here, I'd say neither of them was over the age of consent, and sadly here I'm probably insulting those under it.

The actual debate i wouldn't say is the wank, it's one running off sobbing, the other giggling and whoring out for fawning comments of the 'love me, I'm so mature and right kind.'

An American re-make couldn't screw up LoM any more than the British original did - way to kill off a great idea before it had properly got started, guys. The whole ending was disappointing in the extreme and the thought of an Eighties-based sequel fills me with horror. It could have been so much better than it was; the scenery (i.e. Gene) was wonderful.

Also, LoM fans are officially the most batshit on this or any other planet, and I've been in Stargate, Enterprise and Harry Potter fandoms.

I haven't ever seen it, I was utterly disappointed after I discovered it didn't chronicle Ziggy Stardust's childhood and adolescence in the tough suburbs of Mars.
