House HATES People AND Animals.
People aren't happy about kittens,puppies or House this week, because a dog was high, a stereo was stolen, and canes are made of things more than wood.

Not very animal friendly

Uh, the dog is House. House gave furry!House the same limp and drug addiction. House hates himself. Why would House treat his animal counterpart with any love? How people expected this dog ever getting out of the episode without a few problems is beyond me.

Heh ... haven't seen the episode, but I can understand people wincing at a dog being hurt regardless of the context. People act hurt all the time on screen and you know they're not really hurt, but with dogs I guess there's more of a feeling that if they appear hurt on screen it's genuine (even if that's not the case).

Getting all worked up into a lather about it, though ...

The only time I enjoyed watching House was where House had to 'put on' an English accent to talk to some doctor in London to save a not-crazy patient with a certain obscure disease.

I regale them with tales of lots and lots teenagers jumping in front of a train and off of buildings and a girl being brutally raped and murdered. During this, usually the person I'm talking to shows no emotion. Then, I say "And then, they put a puppy into a sack and stomp it to death."
Without fail, every person I've talked to has recoiled, gasped, or otherwise both physically and vocally said "That's horrible!"

I can't explain it, but I kind of understand them in this wank. 'Cause, okay, House is an asshole. A complete asshole. He's pretty much emotionally abusive (or would be if people didn't expect it from him/he was ever nice enough to make people think he wasn't just a jerk), does anything for a Vicodin fix, et cetera et cetera. But purposely physically harming a dog would make me cringe. A lot. I tend to be a dozen times more sympathetic for animals — maybe because they can't fight back (or even express themselves adequately); mostly, they just have to sit back and take it. (Even if they DID fight back, they would only be hurt more; the dog can't defend itself and say "He beat me!" when his owner tells people the dog bit him.)

...But I should probably stop this before I contribute to the wank somehow. [/dog-loving]

One thing I'm learning about the House fandom is that they relate everything to themselves.

"Oh my god my mom's best friend's father died of cancer! How could they show this episode about cancer patients?"

"My sister brother's cousin had a disorder JUST like that so I couldn't watch it all!"

"My dog just died! How could they show House being mean to that dog?"

Then why do you watch the SHOW? :|


House abused the dog? Someone correct me but I thought the dog got into the pills by accident and the dog was imitating House at the end of the episode and not really hurt. If the dog was really hurt why did the producers have the dog and House share a look of longing? And why would House look sad at seeing him go?


I'm pretty sensitive to animal cruelty and I didn't get a sense of that from this ep. :\

I'm a little surprised no one has commented on the bull penis cane. Although even House drew the line at that, saying "Penis canes are murder." I suppose you could argue that it's no different than having a deer horn handle on a cane, but I find it a little creepy. Like the human skin lamp shades from Auschwitz.

Well, exactly. Also, I've heard that House has been seen wearing a leather jacket! And that people on the show sometimes wear shoes! I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Princeton-Plainsboro has the phrase Arbeit macht frei over the gate...

I think people respond more to animals in pain because it's easier to comprehend. I think theres a point in everyone where they can't empathsise, where it would drive everyone mad if they empathsised with the victims. And I think that, when it comes to animals, we don't have the same desensitisation in place.

If I am told about some kid being burnt alive, I blank, for example. I can't comprehend the horror and magnitude of the act, and thus can't empathsise. If i'm told about some kitten being burnt alive, I get gutwrenchingly ill, because the block dosn't extend to animals in me.
