DanceWank-a-thon 2007!
Or, If Your Friends Don't Dance, Then They Ain't No Friends of Mine

*safety dance*

Ahem.

Gather 'round the campfire doodad, children, it's time for a tale of woe, or perhaps, '...woah.' This takes place in the frightening, dark world of... warcraft. In WoW, there is an item called the Piccolo of the Flaming Fire which, as the Use ability says, makes people dance. That's right, dance.

Through the [info]worldofwarcraft community, a thread that had been posted on the WoW forums about a GM that threatened to ban someone for using the Piccolo for an extended period of time (thread since deleted, however [info]neuroxin was kind enough to provide the image screencap that had been posted on that thread.

Funny? Most likely, except that some people don't quite think so.

[info]espilonarge wants their own Piccolo, in the hopes that they can catch the attention of a GM so they can sue Blizzard. Bitching ensues over this between several others, and interrogating the EULA and TOS from the right perspective appears to be the order of the day. This thread was frozen by the mighty [info]netgoth for inappropriate language aimed at other community users. Only twat, though, no twatwaffle or twatsquid. Sadness.

Further down, [info]harald387 speaks up, saying you shouldn't need to have a cooldown on the Piccolo, but if the players would not be IDIOT CHILDREN (their caps, not mine), this wouldn't be necessary. They are told to relax. Also, Meatwad merely wants to dance.

Less wanky, but more ridiculousness, [info]hhallahh thinks using it should flag you for FFA PvP*, [info]pretendeka thinks it's lame, there are words spoken about text exploitation by [info]espilonarge, but he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about, so the whole thing could be fake. I'm betting on it, since it wasn't a blood elf, it was a forsaken. No one thinks dead chicks are sexy. Really.

Oh, but the winner of the batshit award goes to [info]kuangning, and I quote,

I hate the piccolo. I really, truly, loathe the thing. Why? Because it controls my character without my input. For some of us, the avatars we use are an extension of ourselves. I don't do anything on my character that I would consider inappropriate in real life -- and as a night elf female, flinging body parts from one end of the auction house to another in that travesty of a dance is something I would not do in real life. I've never typed /dance on my night elf when she was in caster form, and I've been playing since closed beta.

To be forced to do it, then, by some little twit with a toy is distasteful to say the least. I wish they'd give us an option to be immune to it. I'd run forever for the anti-piccolo. (emphasis theirs, not mine)

Well, now. This person has it out with [info]kreptis, who tells them to not to be so sensitive. Things go back and forth, and several others also join in.

Last remark:

Well, my character is a toy. I don't share my toys, and so being forced to cede control of my character to someone with a trinket really and truly irritates me.

Eek. Someone failed the most important lesson of kindergarten.

And, the whole thing might be faked! Ah, such is the way of things. I suspect lulz were involved. Sadly, no dancing.

*Free for All Player versus Player combat. Basically, make you killable by everyone, including your own faction.

I want that piccolo like whoa. I'd /y I GOT ANTS IN THE PANTS AND THE URGE TO DANCE and use it in Orgimmar or something. I also want the orge trinket you can get from buying a shiton of WoW CCG booster packs and doing the website point doodad.. thing. You can do the orge dance, and jiggle.

I love the stupid shit this game lets me do. So. Much.

Anybody compared it to rape yet?

I'm not on an RP server, and I don't roleplay in the way you probably mean it. No costumes, no affectations, etc. But I chose my characters, especially my main, to reflect me, and I conduct myself in-game as if people were interacting with me in any other medium. My character is the only thing in the game world I control; it's an extension of my will and personality. There is no IC/OOC, the character I'm using is me in the game world.

No, sir, she don't do no roleplaying, she's pure self insert! AND she kills and butchers her own meat! HOLD ME BACK BOYS, THIS ONES A KEEPER

Um ... one of the major goals of at least some aspects of this game is to kill other players' characters, no?

Death: Less disruptive than dancing! Miles Standish reports live from the scene at 11.

You know, this would be funnier if it was about the warlock that blew up 100+ people in Ironforge's auction house. Or the current bug that makes it possible to use Misdirect one a party member and then attack the Cenarion Ambassador in Orgrimmar, causing him to wig out on your party member.

The Piccolo of the Flaming Fire is made of awesome, and if you don't want to dance, JUST WALK AWAY. Not that hard, people. They crack me up.

Though, I do confess, when my Blood Elf is forced to dance out of nowhere it does get annoying. I don't necessarily want to bust out into the dance moves from Toxic every time someone decides it's time for music.

I hate the piccolo. I really, truly, loathe the thing. Why? Because it controls my character without my input.

Dude, you're saying the piccolo is power-playing and that's why it's bad? Do you even know what power-playing IS? An in-character, in-game item not breaking the rules in forcing your character to do something she doesn't want to do is not automatically power-playing just because you don't like it. It's just like ... your character is pissed off because these people with their fucking flutes keep making her fucking DANCE and god damn it is SO EMBARRASSING!

Haaaaahaaaahh. Which I would love to role-play. Just personally. I have a few characters who'd get amusingly infuriated and humiliated pretty quickly at being made to dance publicly against their will.

Oh but wait, my characters aren't self-inserts ... oh of course. What am I on about? Silly me! All these people are so pissed off because THEY are being made to dance against their will! This isn't about characters, this is about real people! *sniggers*

Every time you play the flaming piccolo, a poor player is forced to jump up and gyrate in front of their computer. Please, think of the players. ;_;

Hahahahaha. Does anyone have video of this?

(The only thing about this I wouldn't like is if it was in the Auction House - I mean, there's more than one mailbox, but when no one in a city can use the AH? It would be sort of annoying.)
