WAH WAH! I want my fansubs!
On the Kuro Hana Subs site, they received a C&D letter from Viz to stop subbing Death Note (which only has two episodes to go, BTW). Death Note fans are known for being smart and mature so I'm sure they are handling the news very well and the forum didn't explode with capslock in any way.

AnonymousSo, VIZ Media wants to make all the Sub-Groups stop contributing their subs to the world of anime fans, who will (at least most or enough people) buy the Death Note DVDs anyway. Kuro-Hana stops, Animanda stops, both unterstandable because of the claim by VIZ Media of having the copyright for Death Note.

But I say:
Stop buying stuff from VIZ Media, stop buying DVDs from VIZ Media concerning Anime, if needed download Anime of the specific series from another Sub Group and show this company, that the costumer is the boss and not the company who owns the copyright. If people abandon buying from that specific company, and if people start trying to act on their demand, and if the company gets less sales from stopping groups from subbing anime series, than let them make subbing anime series, then what would there conclusion be, if not letting those groups sub anime series, which would be in that point of view in the acceptance of both the copyright owning company AND the viewers?

Thus I call for you:
Stop buying stuff from VIZ Media, for the right of the customer. Spread the message for making it possible, for if you don’t, you’ll just be a slave of companies oppressing your right to consume media you’ll buy anyway, and if you don’t you’ll just help the company and work against the costumers, which shouldn’t be your point of view.

So, I demand you, help yourself and your friends and spread this message, help anime staying in some way open source, make it happen.

my 1st post in an anime site in my lift (I think)… Sadly it had to be about VIZ and even worse its about THE DEATH NOTE… the best anime that didn’t have bullshits (well aside from shinigamis and killer notes lol)…. its the first one I see where the main person of story is the bad guy…. and it focuses not on the power you have but rather how you use it and not to mention the twists…. and oh did I mention that its not countless number of episodes like naruto where it takes more than a few episodes to move from from point A to point B to save gara or jump too far from reality like bleach… something that even older ppl can enjoy.. and guess what?! after finding something that really impresses me… somthing mental rather than bang and boom like usual animes, the DAM viz (yes that’s how they showed represented in lower case to show there insignificance to us the viewers, the final judges in this market) they come and say “Neeooooo we’re jealous that we can’t sell our worthless DUBs of ‘DUHS’ while kuro-hana’s SUBS of ppl’s spirit kicks ass”… I’ll tell you what viz (yes dam little viz)… how about you let this great group, who did a job that a giant like you couldn’t suceed in doing, finish off their subbing or we’ll fill your mails and emails with our hatred… everyone here agrees with me … and we even are willing to take it up to the big anime studios and tell them that we’ll not watch their anime if they give their anime to the viz (yes so lil and filled with contempt). I don’t give a dam nickle about law… I AM THE VIEWER, THE END USER, THE CUSTOMER AND CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT…….please support the a movement of ANTI-viz (what da hell is viz supposed to mean anyway? viking in zoo?)…. after all you guys don’t do it for the money… and if you guys are willing to do it then remove your names from the subs and redo the subs differently so they won’t catch you and post it under unknown person in another torrent website and we’ll figure it out….I support you guys till the end… not only you had to put up with our hassle, you also where didcated and committed to it and for free!…so everyone raise your voices and support kuro-hana subs (YES SHOUT IT) and sink the viz (yes reminds me of that guy’s lil p***s and oh I’m waiting for someone to give me a cool meaning of viz that fits them well enough) offices with angry fan letters… and sue my A** if you can lil p***s…. I mean viz…. PEACE EVERYONE

yoshiki: What ever happened to Thomas Jefferson’s original intent w/ regards to the copyright as a thought / idea can not be extinguished once it has entered a mind. Oh yeah, that’s right, thanks to the Republikan Congress for changing the rules and increasing copyrights by 300+-some years >:( .

jod10: They may have timed it like this or not - they may have just been working their way up to Kuro-Hana. Point is, they spent millions of dollars to buy the rights to Death Note and they are simply protecting them.

They want to control the distribution of their new asset. I understand both sides, and in most cases, fansubs actually help the industry by getting a fanbase, which for the most part will buy the products the new Licenser releases ( i.e Viz). At the same time, they own the rights, meaning the title name characters, and anything else relating to the anime.

They are not evil; fansub groups are not evil either. They just have conflicting interests. Please stop bitching at how Viz is the devil for wanting to protect their new asset - the last few episodes will most likely get subbed by someone, whether it is Kuro-Hana or not.
