The scary part of all this is, when I originally read that post I thought he was THE Brad, you know, the one who started LiveJournal in the first place, and that's why people cared what he had to say about it. Yaoi is about a homosexual predator/prey relationship, usually male. Not always about children, BUT SOME ARE. That is enough for a prosecutor. All he needs is one scene in one book.

Doujinshi is a non-romantic tale almost parodying Yaoi principles. An American prosecutor will probably have a hard time pronouncing it, let alone explain it to a jury. They won't bother, call it Yaoi, and, like I said, all they need is that one scene.

Slash can be any old thing from COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL that would be recognizable. If it wasn't recognizable, there would not be a point.

I love the fact that so many people are arguing over the meaning of fandom terms and pooh-poohing his main point. Living in Southern California, I paid very close attention to the McMartin case in the 80's, and he is dead right in everything he says about what happened. It was literally a right-wing witch hunt, as was admitted years later by people involved, and part of a nationwide campaign by fundamentalists to ride America of paganism and alternative religions. And they had quite a success - nobody talks openly in the media about paganism anymore, and try to find a famous person who'll admit proudly to having those belief. (*misses the days of Cybill Shepherd thanking the Goddess while accepting an award*) Good luck.

Fandom. Gotta love it.
