Inspired by the last post, I decided the time has come to report this rather amusing wank, even though it’s already done and over with. This is seriously the quintessential band wank; not only that, but it just is a classic case of wank on all sides. I took much glee in reading it. So…
Once upon a time there was a band known as The Receiving End of Sirens. But all was not well in TREOS Land, for then one of the main vocalists/songwriters split from the group, which caused some wank itself, and Casey moved on to focusing full time on a little pet project called The Dear Hunter. Flee the Factory, which is a fansite for TREOS, has also become home to fans of The Dear Hunter, seeing as more often than not people are fans of both. And lo, The Dear Hunter has had its first wank.
It starts in the forums, where user laxkyle17 pops up and posts in the thread for the new album (#442) a quoted review and his own rather negative and TL;DR (well, personally, I couldn’t stop reading) opinion about The Dear Hunter's new album, "Act II: The Meaning of and All Things Regarding Ms. Leading". In a board full of people deeply in love with TDH. Hmm. Sounds like a good plan. Not surprisingly, he receives some nasty, defensive replies. But all would have been well, if he'd just shut up and backed away. Oh, but no. He had to keep going.
"Casey was kicked out of TREOS because he's pretenious, and honestly if you really know him he's a self-centered prick. Sorry to break all your hearts, I know he's been so kind to you on the internet and in the 5 minutes you got to talk to him after that show. But PLEASE give me a fucking break. At least stop pretending like you know him so well, even if you'd like to think he's a nice guy. You're only kidding yourself."
And then, finally, Casey stepped in with one of his moments of sheer win.
"I began to write something very long, but I think it can be summed up in the question,'Do I know you?'"
And so it continued. I can't even pull out any more choice quotes, it's all just too damn good. Go. Read. You will be heartily amused. (laxkyle17 is, indeed, "almost 19", so no worried there.)
