E3 Whingers and Losers The annual Electronics Entertainment Expo has come and gone, but even with this year's stripped-down, overly subdued version, console fanboys battle over who "won" the event, and none harder than the beleaguered Sony camp. Note that prior to E3, the 60GB PS3 dropped in price, but the cut was done to phase out the machine while introducing a new 80GB PS3 with software-based (read: much weaker) emulation for PS1 and PS2 games. Then, over at Wired's Game|Life, Chris Kohler writes a glowing post about one of the games exhibited, the PS3-exclusive LittleBigPlanet. Despite this positive bit of Sony-related blogging, the comments start off with a gripe: Interesting - ... -- "On the whole, Sony didn't have a great E3. Their PlayStation 3 "price cut" came unraveled. Their PSP redesign was a flop. Thank goodness, then, for LittleBigPlanet. It's no exaggeration to say that this creative, innovative game is the best thing PS3 has going right now, and having gotten my hands on the demo, I'm even more excited than I was when it was unveiled at GDC." -- ==================================== It never ceases to amaze me that people can find a way to bash SNE when they are trying to bring the BEST of everything to everyone. I don't see what the other comapanies are doing that would deserve a GREAT showing at e3. Did Wired not see the show where after SNE's conference Keighly (specifically) and Sessler stated that it was the best presentation by far? This is even more signifivcant when you consider how jaded Keighly had become after being "lied" to after the KZII trailer of '05. Why people continue to disdain this comapany simply on name or the way the wind blows simply amazes me. There were a lot of good things that SNE showed at the Conference other than LBP -- hell, I can think of one in particular, but who cares about that right? Certainly not Wired. Wired also mentions the pricedrop unraveling? As if you are going to wait until all of the 60GIGS are sold out and then complain? No! Go buy one now and save $100USD. I don't understand. Maybe a free PS3 with 4 free games and 2 Monster Brand HDMI cables would suffice for you curmudgeons, but somehow I think you would find a way to complain about that too. Sometimes I wish SNE would just stop making electronics of all kinds just so people can see what life is like with average, bland, cheap products. Nope, that wouldn't help either, because then they would complain that they quit and abandoned all their customers. In that case: Onward through the fog! Posted by: Maddens_Raiders @ N4G | Jul 14, 2007 3:03:48 PM Maddens_Raiders' comment did not go unnoticed. Here's one example: "On the whole, Sony didn't have a great E3. Their PlayStation 3 "price cut" came unraveled. Their PSP redesign was a flop." Are any of these things untrue? I suppose Sony gets bashed because they deserve it, for all of things stated above and more; like putting out a ridiculously priced system and then having your CEO state confidently that people will take a second job to buy one; before they put rootkits into their cds then denied it and then issued a fake uninstall for it before finally giving a real uninstall (after they were sued). Many the Sony fanboys want to stop acting like Scientologists anytime someone has something negative to say about a company that has squandered its clout. Posted by: steve123 | Jul 14, 2007 4:07:01 PM Meanwhile, Maddens_Raiders' fellow Sony fanboys come out of the woodwork. Nigel: This is a pretty ridiculous article. Do you have ANY journalistic integrity. Ten minutes of research on the web will reveal that Sony walked away with the spotlight this E3. They showed that they are truly focused on bringing out a spectacular game line up to their system. AND had the only good surprises out of the big 3. joey: um...did you yahoos even watch Sony's E3 show? did you see Killzone by any chance? Sonys show was by far the only one that didnt cater to fat exercising women or guitar hero bandwagoners. Sony's conference actually SHOWED REAL RED BLOODED GAMES And Maddens_Raiders again with: Did you sleep the whole time in the Mezzanine? Did you actually WATCH the SNE presentation or did you bypass it and then go ask people from the Ninty and Microsoft booths what they thought? Man, you are a joke. I can't believe that you are even a writer there, but who am I to question the journalistic terpitude of one Wired magazine? Certainly not I, mate. I'm still waiting to hear who YOU thought won the show, my friend. We are all dying to know. It goes on for quite a bit (and is still going!) between these fanboys and other Game|Life readers, as well as Chris himself. Here's my favorite set of comments: Mister Bile: I kinda got the feeling that nobody won E3, this time. That includes E3 itself. Chris: I personally feel like I won E3. (...) Mister Bile: Congratulations on your victory, then! Chris: Victory party at Maddens_Raiders' place. Post a comment in response: |
