Oh that Epilogue was kind of not that great, but the anger it will engender (and the amusement I will draw from said anger) will probably make up for it.

Probably? Who am I kidding? :-D

Not that great, no, but not exactly what I'd call surprising.

...unless you've been reading the Super Speshul "My OTP Is Canon!" versions of the books. Which a lot of fen seem to have been doing.

I'm kind of amazed by people who didn't expect "...and they all lived happily ever after and raised rosy-cheeked little wizards. The End." I really think that people got caught up in their own fanon and thought that JKR was going to do a Hamlet or an Othello or something.

Eh, I didn't mind the actual result--never had a problem with R/H, was quite taken with the idea of H/G for some time, but then actually thought Neville/Ginny would be cute. I just didn't like the actual scene itself.

I hesitate to make this comment, as I did read as fast as I can in order to be able to wander the internet freely, but the pacing of the book seemed slightly off, as though the skeleton of the plot--not to mention the sheer number of items to be resolved--were remnants of Rowling the less-experienced author. There were moments where she seemed to dwell in an odd fashion, particularly in light of the brief description of some other events, as though she truly wished she wasn't restricted by the requirement to "pay off" what had come before. Of course, I think Robert Jordan had this same problem and chose the opposite solution--trying to take his plot well beyond its original conception (I guess I should get around to reading Wot 11), and I prefer Rowling's method!

I felt like she spent all HBP in this slow build-up of a story, and then just hurtled headlong into the finale with DH.

The story hardly seems to stop to take a breather.

I guessed the whole thing with Harry needing to die.
I did not guess that they'd have a way around that. ;)

Harry Potter: Your own personal Jesus-equivalent. I can't wait to see the fundies flip their shit over that.

Also, every time I see your icon I'm filled with love and a need to giggle hysterically.
