They Should Just Call It GulagJournal!
I wasn't sure if this fit better in otf_wank or here, but since it involves "Fandom iz serius bidness!" I opted for here.

As the ripples from the Great LJ Strikeout of 2007 continues, unh, lapping at the shores of fandom, a number of fandom folks have started looking for alternatives and setting up accounts (or at least cybersquatting their names) on those journaling sites.
There've been a number of how-to guides telling people how to back up their LJs to other journaling sites, discussions about using Semagic to post to multiple journaling sites, and how to set up syndicated feeds so you don't lose track of your FList on far-flung journaling sites.
Naturally, there was some minor wank early on about people "abandoning ship like rats" vs. "keeping their lazy asses on LJ," but none of it with a LOL!!111!!! that makes such wank truly special.
Now, at long last, a real LOLer!
Vassilissa has taken aim at one of the alternative journaling sites, because she's insulted as hell and won't take it any more!
Is it because the site coding is one version older than LiveJournal? Is it because the default welcome page has an eye-bleeding yellow scheme? Is it because there's no "ad-free and free journaling" options (i.e., to get rid of the ads you have to pay)? Is it because the pre-made options for journal design are limited and that if you want something nice, you have to import it yourself (after you pay the fee, of course)?
No.
(All of the above, by the way, are legit complaints, especially if you don't want to cough up the $40 for a permanent account. Still, legit is legit.)
It's because she doesn't like the name InsaneJournal.
And it's not just the name, either.

It's more than that: InsaneJournal has a mascot named Tweak, with a facial expression like the anime emoticon O_o, only with eyebrows to match. The communities are called asylums. Early users are called "early inmates". Permanent users are called "permanently insane". Paid users are called "self-committed." And, just, no.
At first, there is harmonious agreement.
Note that for all the agreement, quite a few people have already cybersquatted their LJ names over on IJ "just in case" because it seems fandom sentiment is trending in IJ's direction.

- Don't they know insane asylums was were where they locked up witches and 'uppity women' and homosexuals?
- Thrill as Godwin's Law makes a very early appearance!
Naturally, there are some legitimate points about InsaneJournal's negatives buried in the comments, but most of the focus is on "OMG! The name!"
Thanks to a link in MetaFandom (now with wanking in one convenient post!), a few people show up and wonder if maybe, just maybe, everyone's being a tad oversensitive.
Of course, no fandom-iz-serius-bidness post would be complete without the anonymous troll and the clueless no0b who asks the wrong question and gets their head bitten off.
Response from the wing of fandom already actively hanging out on IJ? LOL! So don't join.
