pureimmortal decides to make a database of all the Harry Potter fanfiction she has on her computer and then share it with the world. Unfortunately, she's using Access she doesn't contact the authors to get their permission.

When she posts a list of all the stories she has available, without details of author, pairing, rating or warnings, and offers to email them to anybody who wants them, the authors get a little upset.



silver89kitten: Not only is this rude, you've offended many writers out there, but it can also be taken as copyrighting, as you've not been given permission from authors to distribute their stories, nor have you even credited any of them for their work. [...] Pardon me for getting myself into such a snit over this, but personally, I think this utterly reprehensible. How dare you take others work and just offer to give it all away? And without any credit where true credit is due, I might add.

mijan: Remove "Only Your Shadow" from this list of yours immediately. I mean, FUCK, you didn't even list any of the authors of these fics in your wonderful fanfiction menu here. [...] I wish I wasn't so dead tired, or I'd give you the thorough verbal ass-whipping you deserve.

odogoddess: You have no idea if the people you send material to are adult or not, or parents checking on what their teen kids are accessing, or even undercover cops trying to find people doing exactly what you are trying to do -- illegally hand out material that should only be accessible to legal adults. My advice to you is stop before you are reported.

nufaciel: And now you're making public stories I know for a fact have been taken down for a *reason*, not to be distributed in such a public way, or are required to be under lock and key as per order of the WB?

kit84: I’m absolutely fuming that you’ve had the gall to post the stories, and give them out without a mention of the authors name, summery, ANY warnings or ratings. Yes they may be on the copy you give out. Maybe that’s what writers should do now, post the warnings and ratings under the cut? How fucking well do you think that would go down?

furiosity: You have never obtained my permission to redistribute my fics. So stop it. Now. And don't even bother asking, because I won't say yes. They're not your fics, and so they're not yours to give to people. GTFO.
