Besides, Hermione comes from a normal family, right? I think I remember a few scenes somewhere where she and Harry are able to blend in with the rest of society, whereas the Weasleys look like carnies. And as for Draco--the little pisher is barely in the books. How can they concoct this huge "Draco is totally d33p and s3xy and fuck1ng H4rry" spiel about him? I'm not in the fandom, so this is perpetually lost upon me.

Wow. The Draco-fangirl in the second link cracks my shit up. Love how she brings up the issue of Quidditch being cut from the movie, then has a conniption because people start discussing that aspect of the post and not the "OMG NO DRACO MY LIFE IS OVER!!!" part.

And is it just me, or is there something just a little wanky about Alan-Rickman-as-Snape fangirls saying Gary Oldman's too ugly to play Sirius? I know it's a matter of personal taste and all, but Rickman (though I admit he makes Snape kinda sexy) isn't exactly conventionally attractive. Not that that's a bad thing, I just don't see how they can accept that and then expect Sirius to be played by some kind of Adonis. Especially since I think a lot of Rickman's appeal comes from his performance and not necessarily just his looks-- so how can they know that the same thing won't happen with Oldman?

Also just amused by the fact that they're disappointed that movie!Sirius doesn't resemble a Japanese fanart. Keep dreaming, girls. Keep dreaming.

Heh... admittedly, I also have a bit of a beef with some of the decisions that have been made with the movies, but none of them have anything to do with the casting of a middle-aged man as a middle-aged man, I assure you.

I mean, in the books up to about "Goblet of Fire" or so, Hermione is described as being sort of the awkward type, with bushy hair and buck teeth and so on. Wheras in the movie, we got Emma Watson, who is basically a pretty girl whom the makeup and hair crew attempted to make "geeky-looking". Did Warner Bros. think that the movie would bomb if the character were cast as Rowling intended her to look? Even with the books rocking the face off of children's literature?

Then there's how they cut out most of Ginny's scenes in the "Chamber of Secrets" movie, making the climax basically seem to the movie-only fan as if it came out of nowhere. I'm pretty sure Rowling didn't stick in concepts such as "foreshadowing" because she gets paid by the page (then again, seeing as the latest books could double as cinderblocks, maybe she is).

So... uh... basically... I think Gary Oldman as Sirius Black is a step in the right direction by comparison. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need a towel. :D

Oh, and regarding the actual wank... God forbid that Harry and Hermione dress in contemporary clothing. Because it's not like they live in Muggle society or anything and thus need to fit in so that people don't think they're freaks.

Emma's appearance: Holy Shit people...in Philosopher's Stone they don't wear their school clothes to save the day. Sirius, et al: I prefer to preserve my original wank regarding movie casting, that goes all the way back to PS and Columbus casting Rickman (much as I <3 him) as Snape. That bumped Snape and the Marauder generation up 20 YEARS, which fucks canon up the arse without lube, fingering or a reacharound. So, in that light, I have no problem with Gary Oldman. He teh hawt in Dracula. I will wank over Thewlis as Remus till I'm dead and buried, though. Just. NO. Wankity wank wank.

Draco: One can only hope.

Don't these people realize how much worse it could be? Watch the movie Jurassic Park. Then read the book Jurassic Park.

So Hermione's hair isn't perfect. So what? Compare to a movie where Lex and Tim had their ages swapped, and Tim got his computer-geek schtick transferred to Lex. Genaro (the lawyer) is buff in the book and scrawny in the movie, while Malcolm is scrawny in the book and buff in the movie. Also, Genaro should live and Malcolm should die (well, until The Lost World fucked that up), and in the movie Malcolm lived and Genaro died! Oh, and Hammond should be dead but lived, and Muldoon should be alive but died, and...

Really. It could be much worse.

Actually, it's too bad Jurassic Park doesn't have legions of screaming fangirls and fanboys, because that could be a great wank in itself.

Strangely, what made me really laugh was this line from the third bit of wank:

- People were whining, moaning etc about every movie that's based off an important thing - Pirates of the Carribean, Spiderman, X-men, Holes. And those movies turned out great.

It is kind of a silly thing to wank over, but I never thought that movies based on rides were -that- important. Maybe I should've bitched more about it.

Oh, the Harry/Draco fans are shitting kittens over that picture. I've been listening to it on my friends page for days now. Damn, did I not get my vote in on that parryhotter entry? I was sure I commented, with something like an, "Oh crap!" but I guess not.

See, I just plain don't like Gary Oldman. Never have. I was not thrilled when he was cast - thank god I'm not a Sirius shipper, or I really would have been upset.

And the whole idea that he doesn't have to look that great and only shippers think he ought to look sexy? C'mon, my mother was 100% for Johnny Depp in the role - not just the sex factor, I don't think - also because she thought he would be perfect for the part. And I'm positive she does not read fanfiction.

I'm more of the "wait and see" type, so despite my misgivings, I am planning to see this movie. And I'm not going to whine on about how everything I've seen so far is an indication that the movie is ruined completely. But I will admit it - I'm worried.
