RDR lawyers up
Previously on the Thirty Days' Wank: RDR Books will not ever, ever stop updating its site.

Today: RDR Books updates its site. Again. Some more.

ABOUT OUR LEGAL TEAM

RDR Books is represented in this case by a distinguished team including New York trial counsel David Hammer, a former federal prosecutor, Robert Handelsman, an experienced Chicago appellate lawyer as co-counsel and Liz Hasse, a nationally respected Intellectual Property lawyer from San Francisco as consultant. We also appreciate the important preliminary work done on this case by Craig Monette.

Also, re: the December 5 SVA/RDR "opportunity to discuss 'the David and Goliath legal battle that this case entails'" at GVSU, word on the street is that 1) GVSU may be misrepresenting the purpose of the forum (i.e., that it's not to discuss the case) and 2) it may be canceled.

I just Googled all those names, and there were no results for like two pages for any of them, except Monette. And that was "Craig L. Monette: A Muskegon, Michigan (MI.) Estate Planning Lawyer. So I don't know what this BS is about ex-federal prosecutor, or nationally respected IP lawyer.

ALSO. Wasn't there an injunction banning the promotion of the book?

Thank you for your support of the Harry Potter Lexicon, perhaps the most famous yet to be published book in children's publishing today.

Ahahaha. Haha. What?

RDR Books has agreed to temporarily postpone release of the Harry Potter Lexicon while the case brought against publication of this book by J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. is heard in New York Federal Court.

"Temporarily postpone". Oh man, you are going to get slammed.

RDR Books welcomes your support for our significant legal expenses in this David and Goliath legal battle. You can help us defend the rights of authors like Steve Vander Ark and readers everywhere by buying our other titles on this site or at your favorite bookstore.

Okay, 1) Stop with the David and Goliath metaphor, dude, and 2) They are totally sinking every last cent they have into this thing, aren't they?

If they lose, the whole company will go under and they'll be screwed six ways from Sunday. But if they win, I think they figure the Lexicon sales will make it all worth it. They're at a point where they really can't pull out, and the only two outcomes are going to be success beyond their wildest dreams, or being so thouroughly and utterly screwed they'll be walking funny for years to come.

Okay, so Liz Hasse? She's at least not registered with the California State Bar Association.

Don't lawyers kinda have to do that to practice in a state?

Now the New York Bar has three. One admitted to the Bar in 2007, one working for the New York County's DA's office (IRONY YES), and one who's old enough to actually have been a Fed. Prosecutor.

I'm so very confused. So I'ma go watch 300.

Ok, Robert Handelsman is a real person. He's been practicing since 1973, sez teh Intewebz.

Liz Hasse is also a real person, and she really does specialize in IP law.

There are two David Hammers in New York, one of which could have been a former prosecutor.

In short, RDR may have actually bought a clue.

According to this, Lizbeth Hasse (her name isn't Elizabeth if you go looking for info about her online) has, in the past, been on the OPPOSITE side of people like RDR in at least one lawsuit. I wonder how soon she'll realize that she wasn't being recruited to join in on the side of the WB...
