Wank to accompany holiday shopping
On Amazon's home page, there is an announcement saying that they have won the auction for the seventh copy of J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard for $4 million. What follows are reviews of the tales within, as well as pictures of the book itself.

Then Amazon says that they're taking questions about the book. At the time of this post, there are 83 threads. Among the threads, J. Trevor Chapman decides to play devil's advocate in lieu of the squee, and people miss his point and get defensive.

From Pathetic:

J. Trevor Chapman(OP)
-You're all so sad. You herald Harry Potter as fine literature, while ignoring true literary genius. Is there anything noble in the books? Are there any sentences that have shocked the world's truths?
No.
But you read to escape reality into this fantasy world where you all can fly and turn people into toadstools. Enjoy.

Also check out Why did you buy this book?

And, of course, there is mention later of JK Rowling being a witch and the antichrist. Also that she and Amazon are evil - she for writing the books and not sharing them en masse and Amazon for "waving it in our faces." These threads were not started by our dear J. Trevor, but they are still amusing.

From the "witch" link above:

Adam Fowler says:
Only one way to settle this to see if she's a witch.
Build a bridge out of her.

Stefanie Mario says:
is she the same weight as a duck?

Adam Fowler says:
No but we did do the nose and the hat.....

Stefanie Mario says:
reading harry potter turned me into a newt!

(If there are any glaring problems with the html or great new updates from LJ or anything, let me know and I'll add it. Thanks!)

This should be interesting. I wonder if Amazon are eventually going to put scanned copies of the pages or the stories online? Would that be legal?

You beat me. I was just thinking about posting this myself.

This is the comment that kicked off the whole antichrist conversation:

Nostradamus predicted her coming... Philip Pullman kicks her butt in the writing and storytelling department ANY DAY!

And then people took it seriously!

Also, This person has posted the same comment to both posts. I like to imagine they have that reply saved as a word document and default post it wherever they see a discussion about JKR and witchcraft without reading the whole discussion.

First off, anyone praising Rowling for this move is being a complete idiot. $4 million (roughly) dollars to a charity is nothing compared to what she could have pulled in if she had decided not to be an evil, heartless, callous, and vile human being, which she has proven to be over and over again in these last couple of years in her actions worldwide not only to 'protect' her works, but to just shove her presence in the faces of her fans.
Her FANS are the reason anyone gives a flying fig about her. Without her fans, she would still be some welfare mother living in England struggling to survive. Without her fans she wouldn't be the richest woman in England. This is a nice "well screw you" to all her fans. What would have been the harm in doing the following?:
She could have gone to her publisher and said "I'd like to print a new book", and the publisher would have been super excited because that means lots of money for them. Then Rowling could say "I want all my royalties and advances to go directly to such and such charity" and the publisher could go "well that's a good PR move and your fans will be excited".
The result? Well Deathly Hallows sold at least 11 million copies, and probably a lot more. The only figures I could find were for 11. Now, Rowling probably gets around 15% in royalty payments since she is a big-selling author. A hardback of this book could be sold for say, $20, just to be conservative, and since it's for charity it's okay to mark up the price a bit for a small book. Do the math and you get $33 million.
That's a lot more than the measley four that Rowling actually gave.
This is selfish PR crap. If she cared about those European kids she would have used her intelligent brain to think of the better solution.

And Rowling hasn't given any of us anything other than a good read. She owes thank yous to all of us for making her filthy rich. Without us, she would be a nobody. I think some people think too highly of Rowling. She's a horrible human being. Just admit it and we'll all be better off.

People are also forgetting that if Rowling wanted to give $4 million to charity, she could have done it out of her own pocket. She's rich enough. This is all a load of bologna and just more examples of why Rowling doesn't deserve to be where she is because she lacks the class to be a big-time author.

Post speaks for itself really :(

Bit creepy, though, to have a book that's supposed to be children's stories with a skull on the front.

Please, it's not the Bible or the Koran or something that deserves this slobbering worship. It's very nice that JKR wrote and illustrated a book and put shiny metal things on its cover. But it's not a sacred treasure.

Actually, now that I've seen it, I really really want to try making a handmade book of my own at some point. Too bad it's too late to do it for Christmas.

And the fact that the only fairy-tale-esque story I've written is the two Princes from Into the Woods running out of fair maidens and turning to each other instead. Which I'd be a little embarrassed to put in a handwritten book like that.

...Actually, a handwritten pornographic fairy tale book would be awesome.

But you read to escape reality into this fantasy world where you all can fly and turn people into toadstools.

He says that like it's a *bad* thing.

Ahaha, I can see the pencil underneath the pen lines of that cover page. I don't know why it amuses me so much, but it does.

Rowling may have stated that she's a devout Christian, but the facts prove otherwise. After all, she condones the wearing of tall hats. Strike one.

OMG, Abe Lincoln is a wizard!

Also, she's convinced millions of children around the world that imaginary kids

Imagination is EVIL!

in an imaginary land

You mean Great Britain isn't real? To think that the National Geographic Society has been lying to us all these years.

have developed the ability to levitate objects by waving sticks. Strike two.

As far as I'm concerned, you're not even in the ballpark.

Thirdly, she's had sex for reasons other than procreation. No, it's true.

Shocking! But most married people do, including Christians.
