These web comic reviews are so bad

Gunnerkrigg Court is an ongoing (and excellent) online graphic-novel bildungsroman, set in a world that mixes magic, gods, and high tech. Each new strip has a comment thread (vanishing when the next strip goes up, thrice weekly) with usually quite civil and incisive commentary. But in the comment thread for today's strip, someone links to a review from a couple weeks ago on the blog "these web comics are so bad", attempting to make fun of GK by misinterpreting the "court" in the title and putting the heroine on trial. As a special bonus, the review incorporates bad emo free verse:

She is to nature as a man to his loyal dog
Who squats by his side and is uneasy.
Who can give me a taste of this?
Not you.

The attempted humor of this review falls flat, as its earliest commenters already agree. But once GK's fans find the comment thread for the review, it quickly becomes a bashfest. A few of the more printable and non-tl;dr responses:

Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, review. Those who can't review, write useless drivel like this.

I can't tell. is this satire? am I too stupid to tell?

My eight year old sister could write a review of ANYTHING better than you, and hers would consist of just three words; 'it is cool' or 'it is bad'.

ETA: Cormorant pointed me in email to another thread about the same webcomic review site.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!

Maybe a few dozen outraged lectures on the true depth and meaning of this webcomic will be enough to thaw that despicable (and totally not facetious in any way) Grinch's heart.

His reviews read like Strong Bad trolling the internet, minus the humor.

Exhibit C: The art in this comic is OK, but it never gives me the kinds of feelings that I get when I'm driving alone and I hum to myself softly because I can't be absolutely certain if there's nobody in the back seat, so I don't want to go all out and sing, because what if there is someone, and I just forgot? In the face of this strong evidence, I think that we may need to consider that Gunnerkrigg Court may be very guilty.

.....What?

I don't think they need this comic so much as they need the Winchesters to check out their car.

On the plus side, I've been introduced to what looks like an awesome new comic, if the first three chapters are anything to be judged by. A+!

It is. It uses ... characterization. Real characterization, not 'the gamer chick.' And pacing. And plot. And consistent art. And the plot is good and the art is good. Magic.

I clicked and ended up reading the first nine chapters without pausing. I've never followed a webcomic before, but now I appear to be hooked!

I so want to go on to Chapter 10, but I have to get to bread baking now. :(

Yeah, I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting last night. Apart from the main character being a Sue, I think it's pretty awesome. Thanks, Fandom_Wank!

They also reviewed XKCD and Wonderella. Um... I'm going to say troll journal, since even if those comics are not to your personal taste* they're a lot of people's sacred cows.

Come on, Gunnerkrigg fans, be smarter than that.

*But I love XKCD so much. You're a KITTY!

I love this report 'cause it reminds me that I need to catch up with Gunnerkrigg Court. Yay!

Also obligatory webcomic rec thread! Recently I've gotten into Girl Genius, which is illustrated by Studio Folgio (they did some art on some Magic the Gathering cards back in the day and for the Unglued sets especially, though I'm not sure if they're still signed on with WoTC anymore, it's been so long).

Your Webcomic is Bad and You Should Feel Bad was better. :(

I can't tell. is this satire? am I too stupid to tell?

Honestly, I was wondering if it's supposed to be a parody of webcomic reviewers or what.

Her best friend is another girl and she has dark hair. Why is it that sidekicks like her always have dark hair? I have seen it in at least two other comics, but I don't have time to list them here. Do your own research for once, it won't kill you.

I dunno, I might just have to declare this as brilliant satire. Or a funny (!) troll.

Given the name of one of the commentators, "Gaius Satiricus," and the fact that this site went live not long after John Soloman's "Your Webcomic Is Bad And You Should Feel Bad" made major waves in the webcomic field...I'd say "parody of webcomic reviewers" is on the money.

Holy cow... he's using dream logic to write his reviews. The non-sequiturs are actually kind of fascinating, but I think Jim Woodring does a better job of writing this style.

That is such a cute comic. Really nice idea behind it and the drawing is lovely and streamlined. Nothing is drawn that doesn't need to be there. (I know that sounds like a stupid thing to say but sometimes people put down lines that only clutter the work).

I keep noodling with the idea of going with keenspace but I had the idea of being on a schedule. :(
