Okay, here's the dealio
So here's the dealio: A Teaspoon And An Open Mind (the main Doctor Who fic archive) underwent a changing of the mods and implemented some changes in policy.

About the same time, user MelindaKitty was banned for using a homophobic slur in an essay and being abusive to moderators. Also, as it turns out, misclassifying one of her essay as a story. (There are screencaps.) She was kind enough to post the essay in question so we could see how entirely not like a story it is.

She was not very happy about it. Neither were either of her spouses or her friends. But the mods and their ilk kept their own comments on the affair behind f-lock and so things quieted down for a while.

Then came the Fighting Spoon. Fighting Spoon's purpose was to provide a place for people to bitch about the recent policy changes at the Teaspoon. It also created an lj comm which claims it can "achive your fics but you should use friend only posts there - so Teaspoon Mods don't know who's with me" (which ignores the fact that anyone can see who's joined a comm.)

Meanwhile, in the journal itself, Fighting Spoon starts out by reposting an email where it complains about how it took a whole twelve to fourteen hours for their fic to get approved now that submissions are moderated. In the comments, moderation of submissions is called repressive pseudo-fascism and V for Vendetta is quoted channeled.

Wank breaks out on all sides! There is tl;dr rant about how mods should be democratically elected and that the whole thing is in violation of the First Amendment, never mind that the mod that banned her is SCOTTISH. Melindakitty's husband reposts the Godwin-invoking lyric-filled rant he'd emailed the mods with. People get confused about who swore at the mod. A debate on the nature of fascism is held. Comparisons are made to Animal Farm. The spirit of Aldous Huxley is called upon. Someone tries to play peacemaker which doesn't work.

All the while Fighting Spoon is backpedalling furiously and MelindaKitty just wants to get back to policy.

About the only thing missing from this is Rosewank, but don't worry, someone's trying to start one in the wank report!

Someone there should post with a an icon saying, 'Member of the Teaspoon gestapo'. Christ, I love Godwins.

Aw damn! There's so much icon-worthy crap coming from the Admiral alone. Not only that, he's the only person I've seen that knows a song by Rush that isn't 'Tom Sawyer'.

But that's easy! Like so:

Hand over fist
Paper round the stone
Scissors cuts the paper
Cuts the paper to the bone

and

Don't ask me
I'm just improvising
My illusions of careless flight
Can't you see my temperature's rising
I radiate more heat than light

and

Run with wind and weather to the music of the sea
All four winds together can't bring the world to me
Chase the sun around the world, I want to look at life
In the available light!

and

You can choose now to rely on some celestial voice
If you choose not to decide you still have made the choice
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill
I will choose the path that's clear, I will choose free will!

Okay, so the lyrics might not be a hundred percent right but I'm doing this from memory. (I used to have a friend who was a Rush fan. She sent me a bunch of MP3s.)

Ooh...let's see. 3 from "Presto" ("Hand Over Fist", "Presto" & "Available Light" and the last is "Freewill".

Dare I ask which Rush song got corrupted for this wank? I'm afraid I'll go into a homicidal rampage if I look for myself...

Too much to hope for that it couldn't have been "Rivendell" or "Tai Shan", I guess. You know, one of the ones Neil wasn't on his "A Game" for...

used to have a friend who was a Rush fan.

oh darn! i was about to fall in love with you a little.

what was that one song where neil peart wrote about how the world is a multiplicity of voices and anyway everyone can tell that all of those people who joined your comm and are "your FANS!!" are obviously sockpuppets and that you should get the fuck over yourself? oh man, that one would be perfect!

Given the spoons and the frequent loss of literacy in fandom, I think "Member of the Teaspoon Gazpacho" would be hilarious.

Mmm. Idiocy for lulz. I feel ashamed.
