Okay, here's the dealio
So here's the dealio: A Teaspoon And An Open Mind (the main Doctor Who fic archive) underwent a changing of the mods and implemented some changes in policy.

About the same time, user MelindaKitty was banned for using a homophobic slur in an essay and being abusive to moderators. Also, as it turns out, misclassifying one of her essay as a story. (There are screencaps.) She was kind enough to post the essay in question so we could see how entirely not like a story it is.

She was not very happy about it. Neither were either of her spouses or her friends. But the mods and their ilk kept their own comments on the affair behind f-lock and so things quieted down for a while.

Then came the Fighting Spoon. Fighting Spoon's purpose was to provide a place for people to bitch about the recent policy changes at the Teaspoon. It also created an lj comm which claims it can "achive your fics but you should use friend only posts there - so Teaspoon Mods don't know who's with me" (which ignores the fact that anyone can see who's joined a comm.)

Meanwhile, in the journal itself, Fighting Spoon starts out by reposting an email where it complains about how it took a whole twelve to fourteen hours for their fic to get approved now that submissions are moderated. In the comments, moderation of submissions is called repressive pseudo-fascism and V for Vendetta is quoted channeled.

Wank breaks out on all sides! There is tl;dr rant about how mods should be democratically elected and that the whole thing is in violation of the First Amendment, never mind that the mod that banned her is SCOTTISH. Melindakitty's husband reposts the Godwin-invoking lyric-filled rant he'd emailed the mods with. People get confused about who swore at the mod. A debate on the nature of fascism is held. Comparisons are made to Animal Farm. The spirit of Aldous Huxley is called upon. Someone tries to play peacemaker which doesn't work.

All the while Fighting Spoon is backpedalling furiously and MelindaKitty just wants to get back to policy.

About the only thing missing from this is Rosewank, but don't worry, someone's trying to start one in the wank report!

Seven wrote Angel/Faith. It was all about Angel coming to terms with needing to do bad things to save the world while teaching Faith how to slay things and curing her of her emo. Only he didn't think it was Angel/Faith so much as gen, it just looked hella shippy to other people when Angel and Faith cleaned each other's faces with spit.

*is still trying REALLY HARD not to ship Seven/Ace*

See, to me, Seven/Ace is a bit more like Giles/Buffy, i.e. Huge Frickin' Squick territory.

It squicks me less if it's, like, set in The Future after she's about 20something. Somehow. Though still I can't bring myself to read any of it.

And yet they are years closer in age that Rose and the Doctor.

It's not the age difference that bothers me (really, when you've got one partner who's essentially immortal, age is a non-issue); it's the quality of the relationship. I see Buffy and Giles as having a mentor/student, father/daughter relationship, which is how they interacted on the show. (And yes, I know the father/daughter thing bugs B/G 'shippers to death, but IMHO, that's their relationship. YMMV.) OTOH, there are sexual sparks between the Doctor and Rose; they flirt, they have thinly-veiled conversations about "dancing," they act like boyfriend and girlfriend, etc. Nine's longing for Rose was barely contained, Ten was devastated when he lost her, and she loved him.

Anyway, not to be too tl;dr, but I see Seven and Ace as having more of a mentor/student, father/daughter relationship, so the idea of them having a sexual relationship squicks me the hell out. Not saying people who 'ship them are sick freaks--well, y'all are, but so are the rest of us--just saying it Ain't My Thang.

Ten was devastated when he lost her

If you are implying that one can only be devastated by the losses of those one loved in a romantic sense, then I feel terribly sorry for your friends and family.

Or to put it simply, given Rose's screaming Daddy issues, I find Doctor/Rose just as squicky as Doctor/Ace.

O-kay. No, I'm not saying that at all, just that his particular brand of devastation was an extension of their romantic relationship. And you can 'ship whomever you want, Daddy issues or no; I'm just explaining my personal druthers.

If not more so, yes.

But it's Seven so it was all a very elaborate plan to get Ace Faith in to bed when they weren't blowing things up and saving the universe. Trufax.
