Uwe Boll: Don't Blame Me, Blame The Games!
I've seen this on Kotaku recently, one of the few gaming blogs that I read regularly, and I just had to post here about it a bit.

During a recent Fox News interview, Uwe Boll claims that the reason that gamers hate his movies isn't at all his fault, but that of the games that he adapts:

"A lot of video games have no story. I did the movie House of the Dead and got bashed and I said, what were you expecting, Schindler's List? I showed zombies chasing people and this is basically what the movie delivers. I don't know what they were expecting if you make a movie based on an ego shooter where you kill ninety minutes of people non-stop."

Pretty quickly it gets picked up by Joystiq and Kotaku, and the comments are, needless to say, not very pleasant.

Does that count as Godwin's Law?

For almost any other director, I'd say 'pick better games then!', but this *is* Uwe Boll we're talking about.

For some mysterious reason Spring Time for Hitler (and Germany) always starts playing on a loop in my head whenever I see the name Uwe Boll. Why is that, I wonder? Oh, wait...

And yet that just begs to question, if he thinks so poorly of the games why does he direct movie adaptions of them? I mean I'm sure he can make money directing other pointless films that don't have video game origins.

I just wonder how he gets these semi well known actors to work for him? Although, it might be part of his ploy because I am almost, almost tempted to go see that Dungeon Siege movie just so I can star at Jason Statham for an hour or so.

But then I remembered we own Snatch.

"A lot of video games have no story"

So you create them. That's what a moviemaker is supposed to do. Create stories. Even if they are for video-game adaptations.

"I showed zombies chasing people and this is basically what the movie delivers"

Wrong. House of Dead follows a storyline. And if this guy had bothered to play the game, he'd know.

I actually got drunk and paid money (on purpose!) to see In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. I'm kind of ashamed of this. Although it was kind of lulzy when Burt Reynolds sent out his ninja attack squad.

I think this article is best at capturing the nonsensicalness of Uwe Boll. Major capslock of rage. It's a "behind the scenes" look from one of the original writers for Alone in the Dark. (I realize this doesn't pertain to the current wank but it's key to understanding his lack of thought processes.)

So wait... what this comes down to is that Uwe Boll is actually an anti-games crusader in disguise, and his movies are just a hugely expensive vanity project to get people to hate the games?

*scratches head*

Sad thing is, I think that makes more sense. :\

The music playing in the theater before the previews was more interesting than House of the Dead. In fact, my friend and I were the only people in the theater the night the movie came out.

After the first five minutes, my friend wanted to leave. I refused. I wasn't going until every last one of those fuckers were dead.

I want those hours of my life back.
