Entry tags:fandom: achewood, fandom: webcomics, fandom_wank's thoughts on yaoi, stop sharing your thoughts, wanking inside the house, your favorite webcomic sucks

"Lie Bot, what is the saddest wank?"
Today's Achewood really isn't all that different from the usual storylines, only not entirely as coherent as some people would like. It's also incredibly sad.

So predictably, people get their panties in a bunch.

There's obligatory whining from "randombeing":
"Oh, awesome, we're probably in for another discomfiting Onstad-is-depressed arc. This gets a 2 from me."

Tl;dr analysis from "pez":
"this is not a bad strip. not at all. in fact, everyone struggling to decipher it only makes it better. the best art is never too literal- so why should onstad have to treat us like children? did cartilage head make perfect sense? or ever get a thorough explanation? no, so what exactly warrants giving this strip a low score?

i actually think this strip has a lot of meaning. my interpretation: onstad is contrasting the dreams of both children and grown men, to see what we wanted then and what we want now. philippe thinks he is old enough to go to disney land. the age of innocence. whereas any other achewood character considers a strip club to be their own disney land. at the same time, both beef and philippe are shown to share the same childlike innocence, though philippe has still yet to be corrupted by age. and i think the question is posed: what dreams came true?"

Consecutive posts from "neonfreon" to give the strip the lowest rating possible:
"i know it's obvious, but horrible strip. nobody can come up with any reason to consider it better than horrible."
"when i gave it a 1, the rating dropped to 3.6 - it's down to 3.5 now. keep it up, boys."

Capslocking from "dovey":
"NEONFREON YOU ARE A VALUED MEMBER OF THIS COMMUNITY
SOMEONE HAS TO BE THE BIGGEST ASSHOLE
YOU ARE THAT GUY"

Accusations of sockpuppetry from "silver_lake":
"Wow. The account where "neonfreon" is a 41 year old man ALSO wants to whine about the comics! It's like a bunch of dudes crying out for their own dongs. They are SO MAD."

Also, oh noez, Achewood is going mainstream:
"I've said it before, I think at this point Achewood has gained the tard newspaper demographic who steadfastly vote on everything with their newspaper poopsets."

And a rather nice summary of the whole situation:
"Assetbar as retardeder than usual today. Good work."

Smallish for now, but plenty more in the comments, and still ongoing. No recipes yet, sadly.

I wasn't crazy about the strip, but I'll thank you for posting Achewood wank.

You know, I read the first panel on that strip with a "Charlie the Unicorn" voice.

Maybe that's the key.

Every time I see a random Achewood strip, I wonder why anyone likes it. Does it have any internal logic, or even some decent artwork?

At least it produces wank, which is amusing, if unintentional.

It has incredibly good characterization, and a lot more serious drama than most other webcomics. And awesome use of language. But a lot of strips focus on either body humor or pre-established situations, so it's hard to get into the comic just by reading a few strips.

Some examples of awesome (mostly out of context):

You can't really just read 'random' Achewood strips. You kind of have to go through the whole thing until it 'clicks' with you.

Which is why most people are either 100% huge fans, or just don't like it at all.

Pretty much I just like it because this is how I feel every time I get home from the gym.

(It's just a really uneven strip. Some strips: genius. Some strips: bleah. I find the best strategy is to get a friend who really likes it and feels the need to link to only the best ones.)

What's so hard to grasp? It's a comic strip about alcoholic cats. Sometimes it's howlingly funny, sometimes it's sad, sometimes it's just kinda there. They're not always winners, but when it's good, it's absolute genius:
http://achewood.com/index.php?date=07052007

The difference between it and most other webcomics, in a nutshell.

Ah, Achewood. I can't stand it. Not just because I don't think the comic is good, but because the evangelical bent of a lot of Achewood fans is obnoxious.
